They say money talks, and it makes sense that welder wages are all the rage these days. Wages aren’t going up, but the price of being able to work sure is.
That’s not just welding though, it’s every industry. And somewhere in the middle is the business that catches it from both sides.
That’s T&M.
We hear from suppliers on why prices are going up. We hear from contractors and welders asking why prices are going up. Heck... we complain when prices go up too.
But this post isn’t really about prices.
It’s about giving a shoutout to Taos and Mary when everyone is complaining.
The store is open almost 90 hours a week, and they’re usually there closer to 100. They hold prices as long as they can and pray costs come back down before they have to raise them. They negotiate, haggle, shop around, and do everything they can to keep prices fair.
Are they Amazon? Nope.
Do they price match? Nope.
Do they answer the phone after hours, stay late when someone needs them to, open on Sundays, and know their customers by name? Every single day.
T&M Welding Supply is a family business. Mostly you see Mary and Taos, occasionally Cody and I are there, often behind the scenes. Most of the extra help we’ve had over the years hasn’t just been anyone, they’ve been our friends. It’s honestly a lot of work with very few hands.
So next time you come in asking if we price match, call at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday, or get frustrated because Mary and Taos stepped out for dinner at 6:45 on a Saturday night (after they’ve closed), just remember they’re doing their best to run the best welding supply store they know how.
They don’t ask for recognition, and they’d probably be embarrassed that I’m even writing this. They genuinely love this store, they love their customers, and they’re proud of what they’ve built. I just think they deserve a little thank you every now and then.👏🏼
