Did you know you can teach air pressure with just two plastic bottles and a refrigerator? 🌦️

When kids can actually see and feel how weather works, instead of just memorizing vocabulary, something clicks. That's the idea behind the Feeling the Pressure activity in Science Unlocked®.

We wrote up the full activity (plus a quick explainer on why it works) over on the Resource Center.

Explore meteorology for kids with a hands-on weather experiment. Science Unlocked makes teaching science simple and engaging all year long.

Squishy, fun… and actually teaching science? Win-win!

The Stress Ball Science Experiment gets kids testing, comparing, and figuring out what works and why!

In this experiment, they're learning how materials work together, what makes something durable, and how to improve their design.

It's one piece of Science Unlocked®, where every activity builds into a full year of hands-on learning (without you having to plan it all).

Need a Science Fair project idea? 🔬

Some of the best science fair projects start with a simple question and a curiosity about how something works.

If your child explored a question, tested an idea, or discovered something new, they're already doing real science—and they may be ready to enter the Science Fair.

The Home Science Tools Science Fair is officially open for submissions!

Science fairs are a great opportunity for students to explore their curiosity, test ideas, and practice real scientific thinking. Whether your student is investigating a question about plants, building a model, or testing a hypothesis, the process of experimenting and discovering is where learning happens.

If your student has been working on a project, we'd love to see it. Every experiment and discovery is part of the scientific journey.

If your student is working on a science project right now, here's a reminder:

It doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Science is about curiosity and experimentation (and, of course, learning along the way). Sometimes, the most valuable discoveries come from unexpected results or questions that lead to a new direction.

Whether your student is observing, building, testing, or simply asking "why," they're already doing real science.

Keep encouraging the questions!

One of the greatest benefits of science is learning how to think!

When kids investigate questions, test ideas, and observe results, they’re practicing critical thinking. They learn to ask why, notice patterns, evaluate evidence, and adjust their ideas when something doesn’t work the way they expected.

This kind of thinking isn't just great for science lessons but shows up in problem-solving and everyday curiosity about the world.

Hands-on science gives students the chance to practice these skills in a meaningful way — turning simple questions into deeper understanding.

SCIENCE FAIR CHEAT CODE:

Science Buddies® kits are designed to support real scientific investigation!

They provide specialized tools and reliable methods, but students still choose the question, design the test, and interpret the results. One kit can lead to many different experiments depending on what your student wants to explore.

So, how do you know if a kit makes sense for your child's project?

We break it down in our latest article!

Maybe you've been scrolling on our site, thinking:
"Is this too advanced?"
"What if it's messy?"
"What if we don't get it right?"

Let us reassure you that hands-on science isn't about perfection, only participation!

When students observe, test ideas, and put forth effort, they're building skills that last far beyond one lesson.

You don't need hours of prep time or every material/science tool under the sun. You just need a willingness to begin.

From simple observations to deeper discovery, every question is a step forward. You're more capable than you think!

If you've ever thought, "I'm not a science person… I can't teach this," you’re not alone.

But the truth is, your child doesn't need you to know all the answers. They just need you to explore with them.

Science at home is simply about asking questions together. It's about watching their eyes light up when something finally makes sense.

You don't have to explain every reaction, label every rock, or define every term.

Today, we encourage you to start small, perhaps with one kit or one experiment.

You might be surprised how much confidence grows — for both of you.
