Did we mention that we love active learning? πŸ˜‰ One of this year's MS graduates Christina Bergen also worked as a WISE Graduate Research Assistant at The Raymond Corporation while she was completing her degree. Her resulting thesis on "Mission-Adaptive Path Planning for Autonomous Guided Vehicles in Manufacturing Environments" was approved by her committee on May 8. πŸŽ“ We applaud our many active learners like Christina in the Class of 2026 and wish them the very best as they take the next steps in their careers! πŸŽ‰

Dean Emeritus Dr. Krishnaswami "Hari" Srihari has recently returned from visiting Bridge Green Upcycle in Guindy, Chennai, India, which is one of three Bridge Greene Upcycle facilities now operating in greater Chennai. On a Mission to "clean up Clean Energy," their teams work to reduce waste and pollution through pioneering the upcycling of lithium-ion batteries. With sites both in India and closer to home here in Broome County, they are turning trash into treasure via the reclaiming of battery materials, which are then sold back into the larger energy ecosystem. SSIE and the Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE, an institute of advanced studies at Binghamton University) are proud of our continuing research with this major global entity and their efforts to create and promote cleaner, greener energy.

"We should all be proud of what SUNY - The State University of New York represents: a public system that continually reinvents itself and drives the technological future of our state." - Dr. Mark Poliks of the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering at Binghamton University University during the 2026 Chancellor's State Of the University Address

Yesterday SUNY Distinguished Professor Dr. Mark Poliks of the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering was honored to provide remarks as part of the Chancellor's State Of the University Address event in Albany. His comments shed light on Binghamton University's ongoing microelectronics research efforts and inspired hope for continuing advancement. His words speak to the spirit of innovation and perseverance that is thriving within the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science and our greater Binghamton University campus. He and his team of out-of the-box thinkers and researchers have excelled in "developing wearable and flexible electronics for health monitoring, disease diagnostics, wind turbine blade sensing, and soft robotic inspection systems. These technologies feed critical data from the edge to the cloud, improve safety and quality of life, and strengthen the digital infrastructure that underpins our economy." We thank Dr. Poliks for providing a voice for our community at this event and advancing the state-of-the-art, and wish the Chancellor great success in the next steps effecting their vision for our greater SUNY system.
