Capital Refractories Inc. has experienced strong growth in recent years, and to support our clients even better, we’ve expanded our U.S. team.

We’re delighted to welcome Paul Smith as our new Technical Sales Engineer. Originally from England, Paul brings more than 15 years of hands-on experience in the refractories industry, gained while working with Capital Refractories in Europe.

Paul’s deep expertise lies in the development and application of flow control nozzles and pre-cast ceramic shapes. He has played a key role in advancing our high-performance, erosion-resistant nozzles, precision zirconia atomizing systems, and fully customizable carbon-bonded filters.

In recent years, Paul has focused on technical sales, with particular strength in coreless induction furnace linings, plastics, and castables.

Strike Out Cancer is a two-day tournament held in Gardendale, Alabama, USA, where children aged 5 to 14 years compete in both baseball and softball. The primary goal of the tournament is to raise crucial funds for the American Cancer Society, supporting its fight against cancer. Since its inception, the event has grown in both size and impact, and 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of this inspiring initiative. This year alone, the tournament has raised over $240,000, an incredible achievement that Capital is proud to support as a sponsor.

The event not only raises funds but also fosters a sense of community and sportsmanship among young players.

Our very own Kenneth Caddis, Production Manager at our USA facility, plays an active role in the tournament as the assistant coach for the 7/8 U Orioles baseball team, where his son KJ is a proud member of the team. The dedication of local families, volunteers, and sponsors like Capital makes this tournament a special and meaningful way to unite people in the fight against cancer.

As the tournament reaches its 10th year, Strike Out Cancer continues to make a lasting impact, bringing together children, families, and communities for a common cause, proving that through teamwork and determination, we can make a real difference.

The primary mission of the food bank this year is to distribute 21 million meals to families across Alabama who are struggling with hunger. By addressing the growing need for food assistance, the organization aims to make a significant impact on reducing food insecurity throughout the state.

A generous donation from Capital will contribute to this effort by funding the provision of 3,000 meals for families in the local community. This contribution will help ensure that vulnerable households receive the nourishment they need, providing a lifeline of support to those facing difficult times.
