🚨Your help needed: Solar net metering in Virginia is under threat. AEP has petitioned to decrease the net metering rate by 70%, from our current retail rate of $0.16 to $0.049, so no more 1-to-1 credit. While we would expect current customers to be grandfathered in with their existing terms, this would dramatically and negatively impact the growth of solar in our state.

With true standing seam roofs, penetrations are not needed to attach the rail to the roof. We use S-5! clamps that pinch the seams as shown in this 8 kW grid-tie system in Crozet, VA, installed in 2020. We met the founder of S-5!, Rob Haddock, at Solar Power International in 2019 and missed our opportunity to ask how that unusual company and product name came to be!

This is a 12.6 kW off-grid system in Bartow, WV. Ground-mount systems cost a bit more upfront due to the infrastructure and extra wire/ditching/conduit, but they are generally more productive because they can be oriented more optimally and they have better airflow/cooling.
