Vision is a powerful force that, when used correctly, can be transformative—vision for something new is birthed when there is dissatisfaction with the status quo. That is the exact place that Westermeyer Industries began 25 years ago today; built from a foundation of faith that God was calling us to start a business with no money, no building, no customers, and no employees. As we reflect on those early years, there were many times it would have been easier to quit than push forward. But we reminded ourselves daily that failure was not, and is not, an option. By pressing on together in faith, we knew that the vision we were given would come to pass.
Now, 25 years later, we are amazed at what has been achieved. We grew from our garage to a farm shop, expanded to our first building of 6,000 square feet, and we now operate in 150,000 square feet. Our first order of $110 came in nine months after we started, and just a week later, we received our second for $362. We started with three employees and are now over 100 strong.
Building a manufacturing team in rural America seems odd to most. After all, we are not located in a manufacturing hub—just the opposite. It’s corn fields as far as the eye can see. But in rural America there is a sense of pride in working with your hands to build products that support our customers and the industries they serve, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Today, on our 25th anniversary, we are filled with thanks: to our employees, who took a chance on a little company with big dreams; to our customers, who trusted us with their business; to our community, who stood beside us every step of the way; and above all to God, for giving us the strength to see it through.
We have endured much: starting up with no cash, growing on a shoestring, and a fire that tried to take the business down. Had it not been for the favor and grace of God, and for the employees and customers who believed in us, we would not be here today. Thank you for allowing us to serve your needs and be your partner. May God Bless you all.
Here’s to the next 25 years: we can’t wait to see what’s next.
