As the Workers’ Comp Nurse at AlaTrade Employee Services (AES), Melissa Craig, RN, plays a vital role in keeping our team safe and well. With 13 years in the poultry industry, she manages workplace injury claims and provides care for employees when they need it most.

“Our goal is always to keep our people healthy and safe—getting them well and back to work as quickly as possible,” Melissa explains. She appreciates the structured environment AlaTrade provides after years in hospital nursing, but she remains on call and ready to help whenever needed. At the heart of her work is a simple truth: “AlaTrade cares about its people. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to feed our communities or take care of our families.”

As a woman and a leader, Cherie Ware knows how essential it is to be the change she wishes to see in the world. Ware has embraced this principle throughout her 9 years at AlaTrade. As the Production and Logistics Manager at the Boaz plant, she’s responsible for managing the full production schedule and the flow of incoming and outgoing products, ensuring everything runs seamlessly.

Cherie has witnessed the evolving role of women in the poultry industry, noting, “The industry has opened up a lot for women in the last few years... we’ve been in positions that were usually held by men in the past. The world’s become more open to women being in leadership positions.” Cherie also believes in the power of customer-centered leadership: “If you revolve your world around the customer, more customers will revolve around you.” We’re proud to have Cherie’s leadership making a difference at AlaTrade!

While manufacturing is often seen as a man’s world, the poultry industry has been greatly impacted by women committed to working together to provide a quality product. At AlaTrade, women are a vital part of our operations, making an impact at all levels of leadership.

Shawna Delgado has been in the poultry industry for nearly 28 years. She lives by one of her favorite quotes, a quote from Michelle Obama, "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish." Shawna believes the poultry industry is full of opportunities for those willing to step up, and we’re proud to have her leading the way at AlaTrade. Her advice to women in the industry? "Use your voice." She has used hers to ensure that AlaTrade consistently meets our customers' expectations. As a QA Manager for both our Boaz and Albertville plants, she plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of every product we process.

John Pittard has officially retired as CEO of AlaTrade Foods after 45 years in the poultry industry. His leadership transformed the company into an industry leader, and while he steps back, he will continue to serve on the Board of Directors. At a recent celebration, industry peers, family, and friends gathered to honor his tremendous impact on the company and the poultry sector.

During the celebration, Josh Whitley reflected on Pittard’s legacy, saying, “If I can speak for the entire AlaTrade team here, our number one goal is to make you proud—to make AlaTrade bigger and better than it is today.” Following John’s retirement, Whitley steps into the dual role of CEO and President, bringing extensive experience and a clear vision for AlaTrade’s future. He is committed to carrying the company forward, focused on growth, and honoring the legacy left to him.

As AlaTrade employee-owners prepare to attend the International Production & Processing Expo, we salute the dedication of our Sales team, including our VP of Sales, Greg West, whose work ensures that AlaTrade can continue to provide high-quality products and exceptional service to our customers.

In September of 2017, Greg was named Vice President of Sales at AlaTrade, overseeing outgoing sales, customer service, and raw material purchasing. With over 34 years of experience in the poultry industry, Greg’s expertise spans both operations and sales. Guided by a strong commitment to helping others and following God’s principles, Greg plays a key role in AlaTrade’s success. A proud veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard, Greg served for 8 years, including active duty assignments during Desert Storm and two tours in Panama, before being honorably discharged in 1997. A Georgia native, Greg now lives and works in Alabama and holds a Business Management degree from Ashworth College, earned in 2003.

⚠️ Weather Update ⚠️ Due to ongoing winter weather conditions in North Alabama, AlaTrade has decided to keep our Boaz and Albertville plants down today for both shifts.

Operations will resume tomorrow, Saturday, January 11, with both shifts running. 1st shift will have a 1-hour delay, and employee vans will not be running.
