It is not too late to learn the ins and outs of water conservation! Water expert Larry Sunn of Rain Bees will lead a free, 12-week series focused on water conservation. The workshops will be held each Wednesday from Aug. 19 to Nov. 4 at the Patrick Heath Public Library, 451 N. Main Street in Boerne, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The WE in Westward is all about our employees. We’re excited to welcome Phillip Pipkin, Staff Engineer, to Westward’s North Texas office! Phillip provides civil engineering services throughout DFW and across Texas, with a special interest in stormwater management and utilities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Texas Tech University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington. Outside of work, Phillip is a devoted Texas Rangers and Red Raiders fan, movie buff, golfer and self-described computer nerd. He and his wife have been married for nine years and are celebrating their son Samuel’s first birthday this month. Their family also includes Daniel, a golden retriever, and Calvin, a dachshund. Welcome to Westward, Phillip!

Regulatory compliance requires knowing your aquifer. Following a significant rain event, subsurface monitoring confirmed improvement on the Uvalde Pool, leading the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) to lift CPM restrictions. It is one of the technical foundations Westward develops for clients managing groundwater resources.

Improved Aquifer Conditions in Uvalde, TX Result in End of Critical Period Management for the Uvalde Pool

San Antonio, TX – The Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) has lifted all Critical Period Management (CPM) pumping curtailments for Edwards withdrawal permit holders in the Uvalde Pool of the EAA’s jurisdiction (Uvalde County) effective, Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The EAA declared the lifting of CPM based on improved aquifer conditions as the 10-day average at the J-27 index well measured 850 feet above mean sea level (ft. amsl), which is above the threshold for all stage restrictions within the Uvalde Pool. The Uvalde Pool has been under a stage of CPM reductions since June 2022 due to prolonged drought. However, significant rainfall across much of the region in July has caused the Uvalde Pool to trend upward over the past few weeks.

The EAA is a groundwater conservation district that manages, enhances, and protects the Edwards Aquifer, a major groundwater system serving approximately two-and-one-half million South Central Texans. The EAA jurisdiction spans across 8 counties including Uvalde, Medina, Bexar, and parts of Atascosa, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Comal and Hays counties.
