We loved seeing these anglers out fishing on Bald Head Island as the tournament weekend got underway.

All proceeds from the 2nd Annual BHI Surf Fishing Tournament benefit Kids Making It, a Wilmington-based nonprofit empowering young people through hands-on learning, skill-building, and opportunities to grow. We’re proud to support an organization making a lasting impact in our community.

Sometimes when you give out gift certificates for events, you never know who may win.. This little girl had fished her heart out , in a tournament, but wasn’t able to catch anything , God had other plans though as she won the fishing adventure with me….. This time she doubled up on flounder and got her a nice spot, of coarse brother had to come along , he had a blast , even though he had to pay the tax man a little, even caught a pinfish on our setups from Italy , The Penn Spinfisher long cast reel comes though again……. ,

How it all started 🎣🌙

Fishing on Bald Head Island runs deep. Lee Pridgen of The Craftsmen Group learned it from his grandfather, Dr. Thad Wester, who started the Thad Wester Fishing School on the island decades ago.

In 2024, during a company weekend on BHI, the Craftsmen Group team finished Friday night dinner and headed to East Beach around 10 p.m. No moon, just complete darkness and a sky full of stars. They fished until 3 a.m. and caught more than 20 Red Drum.

That night became the inspiration for the tournament. In October 2025, the 1st Annual BHI Surf Fishing Tournament launched to benefit Kids Making It. Gale-force winds and hurricane-driven rain didn't make it easy, but a new island tradition was born.

Now we're back for year two: October 9–11, 2026. Come write the next chapter with us. 🏖️

Time has surely taught us a lot of hard lessons, It’s never in the moment that you see it , when you need it most, Its in the dark all alone that he shows up to show you that “I Am” God the one that your forefathers bowed before and has kept you …..Your Father Jevoh Jireh and you’re my child, get up!!!! For I know the plans I have for you , plans to prosper you and keep you…. I want to thank everyone that’s been around for my journey in the world of surf fishing … I made lots of valuable friends and memories, but it’s little notes like this , that get you…….. Thanks Man !!!
