Something interesting happening in Illinois right now that most people haven’t heard about yet…

There’s a new program being rolled out through utilities like ComEd that connects home batteries to the grid.

It’s called a “virtual power plant” (VPP)

Basically, instead of your battery just sitting there for backup, it can:

• Store energy and help lower your usage during peak hours
• Automatically kick in when demand is high
• And in some cases, earn bill credits or payments for supporting the grid

You don’t need solar to do it, although pairing both usually makes it more effective.

Still pretty new, and not every home will qualify, but it’s starting to roll out more this year.

If you’re curious what it would look like on your home, I can walk you through it!

In the future there will be two types of homes. Consumers and providers.

Consumers rely 100% on the grid and compete for electricity as demand grows from things like data centers, AI, and EVs, with little control over rising energy costs.

Providers are different.

With solar and battery storage, their home becomes a mini power plant. They generate their own electricity and can even send excess power back to the grid during peak demand through virtual power plant programs, allowing them to get compensated for the energy they provide.

The energy system is changing.

Do you want your home to be a consumer… or a provider?

With the push to build more data centers around Joliet, electricity demand is becoming a big topic. Some of these facilities can use as much power as an entire town.

When demand increases, utilities often need to invest billions in grid upgrades, which can impact what homeowners pay for electricity.

Because of this, many Illinois homeowners are exploring solar as a way to stabilize their long term energy costs.

We have a battery-only option coming soon for homeowners who can’t install solar.

ComEd offers an hourly pricing program where electricity rates change throughout the day. During peak hours, rates can spike. During off-peak times, rates drop and sometimes they’re even negative, meaning you’re paid to use electricity.

Batteries aren’t just for backup during outages. They allow you to store power when rates are low and use it later when rates are high. That means more control over when you buy electricity and less exposure to peak pricing.

This is especially powerful for homes that don’t qualify for solar but still want to lower energy costs and protect themselves from rising utility rates.

Are you prepared for more rate hikes and power outages?

This is only the beginning, and there’s no real solution in the works right now.
If your home qualifies for solar, you can avoid all of this.

Own your power, lock in a much lower rate, and do it without spending a penny out of pocket.

Or wait until the state comes up with a “solution”
