“A picture is worth a thousand words” could not be more true, so I will let them tell the story.
But just incase you’re wondering, this floor joist was cut to accommodate a pipe and the joist was never properly repaired. This caused the joist, and the floor to sag almost an inch! This created a soft spot under the stool, damaged the wax ring underneath, and created a leak beneath the subfloor. It went undetected until the water damage worked through the tuck under garage. We found signs of damage while doing a remodel, and we very well could have tossed a new wax ring on it and called it a day like the tradesmen before us, but I am very glad we dug deeper into the signs and found the real issue that was causing these problems before joist rot caused further damage or collapse.
