With rising gas prices, more members are asking: At what point does an EV start to make financial sense? 🤔

We crunched the numbers!

🚗 Typical rural driver traveling 14,000 miles per year
⚡ EV efficiency: 3.0 miles per kWh
⚡ Midland’s current electricity cost: 11.3¢/kWh
⛽ Average new gas vehicle fuel economy: 27.2 mpg

Based on current national vehicle pricing, the average new EV costs about $6,200 more upfront than the average new gas-powered vehicle.

When financed over a typical 60-month auto loan, EVs charged at home begin to become more economical to drive than gas vehicles when gasoline prices exceed about $3.07 per gallon. This estimate factors in both fuel and average annual maintenance savings.

⚡ Midland Power was proud to take part in the second Central Iowa Middle School Expo in Boone, helping introduce seventh-grade students to careers in the skilled trades.

Foreman Scott Benz and apprentice linemen Cole Snyder, Layne Borkowski, and Gavin Njos shared hands-on demonstrations focused on electrical safety, power line awareness, proper safety gear, and the precision required in utility linework.

More than 700 students from Boone, Nevada, Ogden, Madrid, Ames, and surrounding schools attended the event, which connected students with nearly 50 local businesses and career pathways.

We appreciate the opportunity to help educate and inspire the next generation of skilled workers and community leaders.
