🛣️ BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY WRAPS UP $100M+ REPAVING PROJECT THROUGH THE HIGH COUNTRY
The Blue Ridge Parkway has completed a historic 75-mile road rehabilitation project stretching from milepost 229.6, north of Doughton Park, to milepost 305.1, near Grandfather Mountain — putting fresh pavement under a big chunk of the road right through our area.
The multiyear project repaved and rehabilitated the main motor road, repaired and improved drainage structures, redid curbs, walkways, and shoulders, upgraded guardrails, and refreshed signage along the corridor. The investment topped $100 million, funded through the Great American Outdoors Act, which gave the National Park Service up to $1.3 billion a year for five years.
Blue Ridge Parkway Superintendent Tracy Swartout said the work was completed ahead of fall season, adding, "This historic investment will serve Parkway visitors and neighboring communities for years to come." The project was jointly managed by the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration.
