We completed this kitchen remodel/addition over the summer. The owner had a vision and we were able to make that a reality! The old kitchen (see before pics) was much smaller and we expanded the space outward, adding about 160 s.f. of living space to the home and greatly improving the space and functionality. It was pretty scary cutting out a 16 foot wide section of log wall, but we trusted the engineer and it worked out great!

We are really late posting this one! Last August we wrapped up building this lovely little 2 bed/1.5 bath house. Budget and overall cost were very critical factors in this build. Ultimately, we were able to construct this 1,000 s.f. home for about $250,000, or about 40% of the 2024 median home sale price in Watauga County!

Just because it is affordable does not mean that it is low quality. We are pleased to report that, despite being insulated entirely with fiberglass batts (except the foam board on the crawl space walls), thanks to good framing and insulation practices, this house is still twice as airtight as code (2.4 ACH-50)! It is bright, quiet, and comfortable, and we expect it to operate with low energy and maintenance costs.

Building modestly sized, affordably priced, energy efficient homes is pretty much our favorite project to do! We are looking for our next new build customer to start this summer. Could it be you or someone you know?

This is our latest completed whole house project. Full interior gut of a 1940s ranch house. This one was an investment for the owners. It went under contract for sale to a new owner less than 24 hours after hitting the market! With Energy Star level airtightness (4.0 ACH-50), a cold weather VRF central heat pump, and spray foam in the walls and roof, this house is better than new! I hope the new owner appreciates the lower cost and improved comfort as well as the aesthetics.

This 1410 square feet Single Family home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is located at 290 Farthing Street, Boone, NC.

Hello, Renew Home is a small construction firm focused on energy conservation for new and existing homes. We are looking for a crew member! Hours for this position will vary but are generally 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Both Full Time and Part Time will be considered. Students will be considered based on schedule availability. Qualifications include:
* Safety- and quality-oriented
* Honest and possessing good judgement with clear background
* Reliable and punctual
* Positive attitude and strong work ethic
* Ability to take direction and to complete tasks without supervision
* Safe and comfortable working in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces, on ladders/scaffold, and in hot and cold conditions
* Safe and comfortable working with hand tools and power tools
* Reliable transportation (this is a site-based position)
* Prior Knowledge of construction (particularly carpentry and/or insulation) is helpful, but not a firm requirement.

Starting Pay $15. Performance bonuses are a possibility. Retirement plan and contribution offered for long term employees (3+ years)

We spent fall and winter building out this barndominium. 1500 s.f. apartment, 800 s.f. covered patio, and 2,000 s.f. garage. This will be home base for a family farm/art studio. Pics don't do it justice, it's a very cool floor plan but tough to photograph (site as well as layout). As always, we worked hard to optimize energy efficiency and other "under the hood" features:
- 1.5 ACH-50 without spray foam
- rock wool and foam board insulation
- HVAC: ductless mini split heat pump
- heat pump water heater

We hope the owners will enjoy this place for generations! On to the next one...

Better late than never to post photos! We officially wrapped up this project late last year. Full gut of a three story container home. This one was a real adventure! I have to imagine this is what it's like to build a ship in a bottle. 1800 s.f., 2 bed, 3 bath.

Building Performance Info:
- 2.2 ACH@50 using closed cell spray foam and foam board insulation.
- Mitsubishi Hyperheat minisplits for HVAC

We are excited to announce that we have recently completed our first new home. It's 1bed, 1 bath, 450 s.f. Bigger than a tiny house, not quite as big as a regular house but every bit as robust in terms of content. This house was custom designed and built and will allow the owner to age in place next door to her family.

We did not pursue a certification for this house, but here are some quick specs:
HVAC: Minisplit (Mistubishi Hyper Heat Single Head 12kBtu)
Airtightness: 2.38 ACH50 (more than twice as un-drafty as the code requires)
Insulation:
- Loose Fill Cellulose in ceiling (attic)
- Dense pack netted cellulose in walls
- Conditioned crawl space with foam board band/walls

What a cool little place and a great experience building this!
