🔎 Why Preventative Maintenance Matters in Your HVAC System
The photo above shows a burnt HVAC contactor — a common electrical component that controls power to the compressor and fan motors. Over time, contactors naturally wear due to electrical arcing every time they open and close.
When preventative maintenance is skipped, this is what can happen:
• The contact surfaces become pitted and carbonized
• Electrical resistance increases
• Excess heat builds up at the terminals
• Voltage drop occurs across the contacts
• Motors and compressors experience added strain
That added resistance and heat doesn’t just affect the contactor — it can impact the entire system. Loose or deteriorating connections can also lead to insulation damage, nuisance tripping, or in severe cases, component failure.
During routine preventative maintenance, components like this are inspected for:
✔️ Contact wear and pitting
✔️ Discoloration from overheating
✔️ Proper torque on terminals
✔️ Correct amp draw across motors
✔️ Signs of voltage imbalance
Catching wear early allows for simple, planned replacement instead of unexpected downtime.
Both commercial and residential HVAC systems rely on healthy electrical components to operate safely and efficiently. Preventative maintenance helps identify small issues before they turn into costly repairs.
If you have questions about your system’s condition or maintenance schedule, D Mechanical LLC is always available to help.

🔧 The Importance of Replacing HVAC Filters – Residential & Commercial 🔧
By D Mechanical LLC
Your HVAC system is designed to move a specific amount of air (CFM) across the evaporator coil and heat exchanger. When filters become clogged, static pressure increases — and that’s where problems begin.
🚨 Increased Static Pressure = Equipment Stress
When airflow is restricted:
• The indoor/supply fan motor has to work harder to maintain airflow
• Amperage draw increases
• Motors run hotter than designed
• Bearings experience excess radial load
Over time, this added strain causes premature bearing failure in supply fan motors and indoor blower motors. What starts as a dirty filter can turn into a noisy motor, overheating, or complete motor failure.
⚙️ Additional Mechanical Impact
Restricted airflow can also cause:
• Evaporator coils to freeze due to improper heat exchange
• Heat exchangers to overheat
• Reduced system efficiency
• Higher energy consumption
• Shortened equipment lifespan
🏠 Residential Systems: Typically require filter replacement every 1–3 months depending on occupancy, pets, and filter rating (MERV).
🏢 Commercial Systems: Often require more frequent filter changes due to higher operating hours and building load demands.
Proper airflow is critical to system design. Something as simple as a neglected filter can create measurable increases in static pressure that directly affect motor longevity and overall system performance.
At D Mechanical LLC, we don’t just change filters — we evaluate airflow, static pressure, and overall system health to prevent costly breakdowns before they happen.
📞 Schedule your maintenance service today and protect your investment.
Clean filters = Proper airflow = Longer motor life

🔧❄️ Leak Repairs Completed – Back Up & Running! ❄️🔧
We tracked down and repaired multiple refrigerant leaks on this Daikin heat pump system and got it sealed up, pressure tested, vacuumed down, and recharged properly.
Catching and fixing leaks quickly not only restores performance but also protects the compressor and extends the life of the equipment. 💪
If your system isn’t keeping up, losing charge, or you suspect a leak — don’t wait until it becomes a bigger (and more expensive) issue.
