Switch Energy

Switch is a volunteer-run event that seeks to spread innovative and exciting energy opportunities.

switch~ is about sharing sustainable energy ideas in an engaging, rapid-fire format. The concept is similar to TEDx and Ignite Boulder, where speakers have just a few minutes to present and inspire the audience about their topic. switch~ is a place for energy change-makers to spread leading-edge ideas and network with other Colorado professionals who are driving social change and industry innovation. switch~ operates as a 501(c)3 via Rocky Mountain Association of Energy Services Professionals

🎤 SWITCH SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Ean Thomas Tafoya 🌎

How do we protect communities from pollution as energy demand and infrastructure continue to grow? Join us at Switch Colorado to hear from Ean Tafoya of GreenLatinos on energy, environmental justice, and the future of environmental protections.

When the Backstop Disappears: Energy, Pollution, and Environmental Justice

-Ean Tafoya

GreenLatinos

For decades, federal environmental protections have served as a backstop against the pollution created by our energy system. Today, many of those protections are being weakened or dismantled just as electricity demand and new energy infrastructure are rapidly expanding. This talk explores what that means for communities already burdened by power plants, refineries, oil and gas development, and other sources of pollution. Using Colorado and the West as a lens, we’ll examine who is most at risk when federal protections disappear and how states and communities can fight to protect clean air, public health, and environmental justice.

🎤 SWITCH SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Aditya Choukulkar ⚡

How much are data centers really impacting your electricity bill? Join us at Switch Colorado to hear Aditya Choukulkar unpack the facts behind rising electricity costs!

Title: Are Data Centers Really Doubling Your Power Bills?

Speaker: Aditya Choukulkar

Description: Stories of electricity bills doubling or tripling are spreading fast, and data centers usually get the blame. The truth is more complicated. This talk breaks recent retail rate increases in PJM, the nation's largest grid, into three drivers: rising demand that pushes up power procurement costs, flaws in capacity market design, and slow delivery of new supply caused by interconnection and permitting bottlenecks. Measured against a 2019 baseline, with inflation and the Ukraine-war shock separated out, the data shows the truth is much more nuanced!
