Narcissists don’t discard you for someone better. They discard you for someone who can’t see through their lies.
Many people assume that when a narcissist moves on quickly, it must be because the new person is somehow superior. The truth is far simpler—and sadder. They choose someone new not because of their worth but because that person is easier to manipulate. Narcissists thrive on illusions, and when you start seeing them for who they really are, your usefulness diminishes. You become a threat to the false image they work so hard to maintain.
The next person is simply a fresh audience for their carefully crafted performance. Someone who doesn’t yet recognise the red flags or understand the manipulation. This is why the new relationship often looks perfect on the surface. It’s another show.
Remember, being discarded doesn’t mean you failed or weren’t good enough. It means you grew wise to their games. In fact, your ability to see their lies is exactly why they had to find someone else.
Don’t envy the new supply. Feel grateful you’re no longer trapped in a cycle of deceit. Healing begins when you stop blaming yourself for someone else’s dishonesty.
