Accelerated aging data can carry a 510(k) or PMA submission through FDA review. What it cannot do is replace real-time aging entirely. ASTM F1980-21 is explicit: accelerated data supports the initial shelf-life claim, and a parallel real-time arm must ultimately confirm it. The Q10 value, temperature, and humidity choices each need a written rationale in the protocol. A clean accelerated result with no real-time program running is the version that draws reviewer questions.

When ASTM F1980 accelerated aging satisfies an FDA reviewer versus when real-time data is expected, plus Q10, humidity, and extrapolation limits.

FDA said it plainly: holding an ISO 13485 certificate does not exempt a manufacturer from inspection, and it does not prove QMSR compliance.

The certificate covers the ISO layer. The QMSR adds FDA-specific requirements on top, UDI, labeling, reportable-event timelines, that a registrar audit never touches. And since February 2, 2026, FDA inspections follow a risk-based model, not the predictable four-subsystem QSIT map. The old rehearsal strategy is gone.

If you're qualifying a contract manufacturer or auditing your own QMS, know what the certificate actually proves, and what it doesn't.

https://lso-inc.com/news/iso-13485-certified-is-not-qmsr-compliant-306e73ec/

FDA doesn't issue or rely on ISO 13485 certificates. Here's why certification alone leaves device makers exposed under the QMSR, and what to prove instead.

A lab can be compliant with a standard, certified to a management system, or accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. Those are three different things, and only one of them tells you the lab's technical competence was independently verified for a specific method list.

When packaging validation data lands in a 510(k), the reviewer needs a reason to trust the numbers without re-testing. Accreditation is that reason. Our Brea packaging lab holds PJLA accreditation (certificate L26-623) covering F88 seal strength, F1929/F2096/F3039 integrity, F1980 accelerated aging, and D4169 distribution simulation.

How ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation differs from compliance, why PJLA-accredited packaging reports hold up in FDA submissions, and how to vet a contract lab.

Material selection feels like a procurement call. It isn't. Pick the wrong substrate and you'll restart your aging studies, re-run seal qualification, and reset a real-time clock you already started, sometimes two years of it.

ISO 11607-1 tells you what your sterile barrier system has to do. It doesn't tell you how your material choice reshapes the test program behind it. That's the gap this guide covers: Tyvek versus foil versus coated paper, what each one demands at the Instron and in the aging chamber, and what FDA actually expects in a 510(k) submission.

https://lso-inc.com/news/sterile-barrier-system-material-selection-guide-0252d52a/

How to evaluate Tyvek, foil laminates, and coated papers under ISO 11607-1, and how material choice drives your ASTM F88, F1980, and 510(k) scope.

Section 820.100 is gone. As of February 2, 2026, corrective and preventive action lives in ISO 13485:2016 Clause 8.5, and the shift changes what investigators look for in your records.

Two things quality teams often miss: effectiveness review is now a required closure element, not optional documentation. And cycle time must correlate with risk. A high-severity CAPA sitting open for months while low-risk items close in a week is a direct nonconformance against the clause language.

Our latest article breaks down exactly what changed and what to verify in a CM's CAPA files.

How CAPA requirements moved from 21 CFR 820.100 to ISO 13485:2016 Clause 8.5 under the QMSR, and what to verify in your CM's CAPA records.

ISO Class 7 allows up to 352,000 particles per cubic meter. ISO Class 8 allows ten times that. Most OEMs know those numbers. Far fewer can document why they chose one over the other in a way that holds up when an FDA investigator asks.

That decision belongs in a written risk assessment tied to your device exposure profile and sterilization strategy, not a spec sheet from your contract manufacturer.

Our latest article walks through class selection, process design, environmental monitoring under ISO 13485:2016 Clause 6.4, and what your CM's records need to look like for a 510(k) or audit.

How to select ISO 14644 cleanroom class (7 vs. 8), design assembly lines, monitor under ISO 13485 Clause 6.4, and support your 510(k) under QMSR.

ISO 13485:2016 Clause 8.2.6 requires a documented, repeatable lot release process with records identifying who authorized release. For diagnostics teams scaling from bench to 100,000 units a month, that means building a release panel across physical, functional, and labeling attributes, setting acceptance criteria during process validation, and deciding per attribute whether 100% inspection or statistical sampling is appropriate.

Get the architecture right early and it scales without a redesign. The full breakdown is here:

Unit 1,000,000 has to behave like unit 1. That's the whole job when you're scaling a diagnostic consumable from R&D to commercial production.

Our latest article covers the full lifecycle: design transfer under ISO 13485:2016 Clause 7.3, cleanroom selection by contamination risk (not default class), validated special processes for conjugate drying and membrane striping, and the lot release panel design that separates a product from an assay. We also cover the QMSR changes that took effect February 2, 2026, and what they mean for IVD manufacturers today.

The global IVD contract manufacturing market hit $21.1 billion in 2024. Most of that growth runs through one hard problem: turning a bench assay into a validated, auditable manufacturing line.

We put together a detailed walkthrough of how that actually works, covering cleanroom class selection, process validation under ISO 13485:2016 Clause 7.5.6, lot-release panel design, supply-chain controls for critical biologicals, and how to structure the quality agreement so your DHF holds up under audit.

A practical guide to scaling IVD consumables: cleanroom class, process validation, lot release, supply chain, and the CM QMS-to-DHF interface.

FDA stopped using QSIT on February 2, 2026. Inspections now run under Compliance Program 7382.850, and if your mock-inspection scripts are still built around the four old subsystems, they're auditing to a framework that no longer applies.

The bigger gap for most OEMs: the records for outsourced processes like packaging validation and sterilization validation sit at contract facilities, not in your own four walls. That evidence still has to be retrievable on the day an investigator walks in.

Our latest article maps exactly where the exposure is and what to do about it.

QSIT is retired and FDA now inspects under Compliance Program 7382.850. Here is how to map QMSR inspection readiness across your supply chain.
