SurClean is an advanced technology manufacturer located in Brighton, Michigan. SurClean is focused on leveraging laser ablation processes to remove surface coatings, debris and oxides in the most precise, safe, energy efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly way available today.
SurClean’s proprietary laser beam delivery systems and patented sensor system are integrated with OEM laser sources and then mounted on robots for an autonomous system or contained with a mobile cart for portable handheld devices. These systems are used to remove rust, paint and surface coatings on aircraft, bridges, ships, rail, tankers and other major assets that require regular surface stripping for mandated inspections and maintenance.
Additional applications are being discovered in the manufacturing process of building these assets as well. The drivers behind this development is the need to work with composites and alloys to lightweight our planes, trains and automobiles. These materials are not compatible with the traditional methods of chemical, abrasive or blasting. The Global Sustainability initiative and the new mandate for the use of Silica in manufacturing and other processes are definitely forcing companies to research new technology. Unlike other companies which use chemicals, abrasive or blasting materials, SurClean’s CleanTech process is faster, less costly and safe for both the workers and the environment.
The management team at SurClean is comprised of experienced laser and automation professionals who have been involved in the development of laser technology applications and taking it to market. The company just moved to a 16,000 square foot building and has collaboration support from major OEM laser source manufacturer’s – LaserLine and TRUMPF. Additionally, Fanuc Robot and Kuka Systems NA – Aerospace Division are supporting with robots and integration services to provide a complete automated solution complimenting the handheld systems.
SurClean is a Midwest CleanTech finalist and winner of numerous business plan competitions across the Midwest. The company has received letters of support from the United States Air Force and the Michigan Department of Transportation for work completed. The seed round is complete and currently seeking Series A funding to scale up the company.
