Working on this piece brought back a flood of memories. Memories from my youth, growing up on Thomason land and with a LOT of freedom. A childhood that few people get to experience... and I’m thankful for it every day.

The fun part of fabrication is coming up with new ideas and playing with different materials to bring the idea to life. When Cris Bolton came to us with her vision for this Rising Edge award, it was an opportunity to combine a lot of elements using several construction methods.

She wanted to create a recognition piece for men who work in places where the acrylic plaque can’t even survive the trip home. A piece that is a hat tip to those wearing a hard hat. An award made in the same type of shop that the recipient works in daily.

I’m really proud of how this turned out and I hope to make more in the future… hopefully improving each time I work with some of these materials.

1/4” steel plate base and backer, with laser-engraved copper/acrylic, finished with a laser-engraved polished aluminum faceplate.

I love this year’s Brock football motto… it definitely inspired me to start playing with the LEDs and backlighting. I think this one turned out super cool!
