We removed an incorrectly placed (severely dusty environment where noise is not a problem needing to be solved) rotary screw compressor, a non-functioning, undersized piston compressor, a useless air dryer and an additional air tank from this tiny room. We added lights to the room, got the exhaust fan moving air once again while installing two 15 hp piston compressors and a dryer sized large enough to handle both compressors running at full capacity.
The large challenge to this project was moving all the equipment. The forklift could only reach about 50 feet from this room, and cranes cannot access the room due to being inside a small outbuilding off the main building next to the silo tank farm. I fabricated an "industrial roller skate" from c-channel, rectangular tubing and HarborFreight wheels. We moved these 1000 lb bohemoths with relative ease using only 3 guys on my skate. Once in the room, we utilized an engine hoist to take the wheels off, and then a Johnson bar to take the compressors off the shipping skid. In fact, the only damage done to the units was done by the shipping firm as noted in the photos with the dented belt guard and destroyed pressure gauge.
We quickly made a custom panel to alternate the compressors and track hours so the factory warranty maintenance items would be done to fulfill the factory requirements.

We are automating a facility that makes “boutique” wall covering materials. It will directly control 2 blenders, each with their own weigh hoppers and inlet and outlet conveyors as well as a room dust collector that has been modified to increase its productivity. The enclosure is 90”H x 72” W x 24” D. It has its own air conditioning system and houses 11 VFDs and one powerful PLC to control the action.

When this plant is fully automated, this panel will communicate with the bulk storage PLC and leave all the “old school “ I/O between them in the past.

This is an automotive recycling unit that had some problems. I didn’t build this, but I got it up and running using best engineering practices to fix the original design flaws.

My specialty is not one type of machine or line of thinking. It is that I easily adapt to the challenge in front of me. I finish the flame lamination machine next week. After that I start on a plasma etch machine then a proprietary prototype that I will be the data collector so they can go to production.

Pumping applications, static and dynamic weight measurement applications, glass polishing, dust collections, injection molding, remote control via VPN tunnel are just a few of the different type of jobs I have done.

Today’s episode is all about the layout. You cannot begin to grasp the size of the panel by the dimensions, you really need to stand next to it. It is enormous, but there will be adequate room to comply with all best engineering practices and be easy to maintain for many years to come.
