In bidding, contractors have to stop racing each other to the bottom.

A lot of contractors aren’t underbidding on purpose.

They just don’t actually know their overhead.

Equipment, fuel, insurance, maintenance. It adds up fast.

So they price jobs based on what feels right, not by the numbers.

And for a while, it works.

You stay busy. Work keeps coming in.

Until something goes wrong.

A breakdown. A slow month. A job that drags out.

And suddenly, the numbers don’t make sense.

That’s overhead catching up.

If you’re not building real margin into your work,
you’re just hoping it all works out.

That’s not a strategy.
