Development of the East Texas Oil Field was kicked into high gear in 1930 by the prolific Daisy Bradford #3 well. The success of the field was critical to the Allied efforts in World War II, and spurred the construction of the "Big Inch", which was among the world's largest pipelines at the time. The pipeline transported much needed East Texas crude to the refineries in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.
New technology and drilling techniques continue to add viability to the oil and gas fields of East Texas and the gulf coast basin. At Dyson Energy, we are proud to play even the smallest roll in a great piece of Texas history.
Roughnecks on an oil rig in Kilgore, 1939. An amazing photo in every respect. Really captures the grittiness and the energy of the scene. Another great shot by Russell Lee.
