In light of the Governor’s signing of S6893/A7208 we have the following statement below:

“We are disappointed that the Governor has signed bill S.6893/A.7208. We firmly believe that this legislation is preempted by federal law and that the discharge of monitored, processed, and treated water would not impact the environment or the health and safety of the public. In the interim, we will evaluate the impact to our decommissioning milestones and the overall project schedule.”

Today, June 26, 2023, marks 100 years since the opening of Indian Point Park in Buchanan (June 26, 1923) and the birth of the name “Indian Point”.

Built by the Hudson River Day Line Company to compete with Bear Mountain, this “pleasure park” had picnic grounds, playgrounds, walking trails and a dance hall. This was the next “stop” after Yonkers for Hudson River Day Line steamships leaving the west side of Manhattan each day. A large 100X150 ft pool was added in 1929.

The park went out of business in 1948, the property was reauctioned in 1949 and then reopened in 1950 as a full-fledged amusement park with rides, arcades, and concessions.

Finally, in 1954, the property was sold to Con
Edison for the construction of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.

The park remained in operation for two more seasons before construction of the plant began. Many Westchester residents have fond memories of Indian Point Park.
