Today's workshop shenanigans found the boys and I creating my bride's Mother's Day gift - a custom crafted, squirrel confounding, wind defying bird feeder pole. It replaced a chintzy thirty-dollar wonder that couldn't withstand the weight of a single feeder without considerable reinforcement. I think it's safe to say it made her day (which in turn, made mine).
This beauty is deceptive in its scale. Exceeding 10' in height, 4 delicately curved arms extend 30" from the 2"x2" post. Adorning the top is a 12" hand forged basket twist topped with a fleur-de-lis. Feeders can be filled by loosing the paracord from its cleat to lower the intended feeder into easy reach.
The post is mounted by sliding its base into a receiver tube that is welded to 1/2" rebar stakes that pierce the earth to a depth of 30". The entire post can be lifted out of the receiver tube for storage, if desired.
This is the post you hope to find at the local big box store, only to walk away with a flimsy undersized shepherds crook you know isn't worth the money you paid for it. This is why small business matters: we can make your vision come to life. Yes, the price will be higher; but if you care about quality with a touch of artistry and craftsmanship, you will not be disappointed.
