In celebration of yesterday, we interviewed Julie, one of our Design Engineers! ⚙
Julie graduated from the University at Buffalo with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and another bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Her passion for the field was sparked by attending numerous airshows with her family from a young age.
During our conversation, we discovered that during Julie’s studies at UB, she always faced one problem: the awkwardness of being a woman in a male dominated field. She told us that because she was one of the few women studying in the engineering field, she had no choice but to stand her ground and prove herself, although it was intimidating.
We are glad she persevered, because she is a crucial part of our team! As a Design Engineer, Julie is responsible for designing units from the inside out from received orders. She also tests the components of these units to ensure that they are of the highest quality we can provide.
The last thing we asked Julie was to pass along some advice to upcoming women in engineering. Her advice was, “You know your stuff. Be confident regardless of outside influences because it’s your future.”
Julie, we are lucky to have had you on our team of engineers for the past ten months. You continue to be an inspiration to many throughout Basco Schmidt every day!
