In the Field Friday 🚧🌳

This week, we’re taking you to Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora, NY, where Watts Environmental Scientist Jett Perillo was in the field monitoring the demolition of the historic White Barn Stable.

According to Park employees, the stable originally housed horses belonging to one of the early wives in the Knox family, who apparently had quite an affinity for horses. The family eventually built a larger stable just uphill from the original.

The White Barn Stable had seen better days, and Jett was there to help ensure its demolition was completed safely and in compliance with Industrial Code Rule 56, Section 11.5-Controlled Demolition. As Project Monitor and Air Sampling Technician, Jett conducted daily air sampling throughout the demolition to monitor for the release of loose debris or hazardous materials.

We had to share these photos because, as Jett put it, “they’re kinda cool.” And we agree! 👏

Bridge Progress in Chautauqua County 🚧

Things are taking shape on the Kortwright Road Bridge over Little Brokenstraw Creek in the Town of Harmony!

Recently, the precast concrete box beams were placed on the Watts designed bridge project, marking an exciting step forward in construction.

While the bridge carries approximately 600 vehicles per day, it serves as a vital connection for the Niobe community. With an off-site detour stretching 12 miles, keeping this local connection open and reliable is especially important for residents and travelers.

We’re excited to see this project continue to take shape!

Project Team:
▪️ Owner: Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities
▪️ Engineer: Watts Architects & Engineers
▪️ Contractor: Lake Shore Paving
▪️ Precast Supplier: L.C. Whitford Co., Inc.

In The Field Friday - Sometimes the best way to appreciate a project is to see it from a different perspective.

Watts Environmental Consultant Jeffery Macklem recently captured some great photos during a skylight replacement project at ECC City Campus. The photos offer a look at the project from the ground floor, as well as from the catwalk above the 5th floor, showcasing the impressive scale and detail of the skylight and surrounding atrium.

It’s a pretty incredible view and a great reminder of the unique spaces our team gets to work in!

We’re excited to share the new New York State MWBE Certified Decal!

As a New York State certified MWBE, Watts is excited to add this official recognition to our website, social media, and marketing materials. A little mist and a lot of laughs!

In July, a few of the ladies from Watts took a trip to Niagara Falls to experience the iconic Maid of the Mist.

A special thank you to Paige's dad, Brent, for making the day extra memorable with the VIP treatment, including a ride on the Baby Maid of the Mist and to Donna, a retired Watts employee, who joined us for the fun! It was an unforgettable experience and a wonderful opportunity to spend time together outside the office.

Moments like these remind us that the connections we build at Watts extend far beyond the workplace. We're already looking forward to the next adventure!

Did you miss National Gummi Worm Day? Our Buffalo office didn’t! 🐛🎉

On July 15th, our team celebrated in the sweetest way possible, with a break room treat featuring everyone’s favorite chewy candy: gummi worms! Employees were invited to grab a handful, enjoy a little mid-day pick-me-up, and celebrate the fun holiday together.

Did you know?

1. Gummi worms were first introduced in the United States by Trolli in the 1980s.

2. In 2014, a Guinness World Record was set for the longest gummy worm chain, measuring 5,332 feet!

3. The world’s largest gummy worm weighed 26 pounds and measured over two feet long - so big it took two people to lift!

A special thank you to Amanda, Watts' Administrative Assistant, for putting together this sweet treat, and to our Buffalo team for helping make the day a little sweeter! 😊

🎉Employee Spotlight!

Congratulations to Watts team members Tim Major, PE, and Brad Sendlak, PE on successfully completing the ACEC New York Leadership Institute program!

The Leadership Institute is designed to develop the next generation of engineering leaders by strengthening skills in communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and creating a positive leadership culture.

Reflecting on the experience, Tim shared: "The program helped me better understand my own personality type, as well as the personalities of others. I came away with practical tips and strategies for communicating and working with different people in a more productive and successful way."

We're proud to support the professional growth of our team and congratulate Tim and Brad on this accomplishment. Their commitment to continuous learning strengthens both our organization and the clients and communities we serve.
