🚫 MYTH:
"The thicker and more expensive the filter, the better it is for your A/C system."

✅ FACT:
No! In most cases, thicker and more expensive filters restrict airflow and make your system work harder.

Many homeowners assume that the thicker and more expensive the air filter, the better it works. While thick, pleated filters can catch more particles in the air, they do so by sacrificing airflow. The thicker the filter, the more the airflow is restricted. Restricted airflow can cause your system to ice up and stop working properly.

💡 ADVICE:
For most homes, we recommend thinner, less expensive air filters. If you need a hypoallergenic filter because of allergies or other health concerns, choose one that helps with filtration while minimizing airflow restriction.

🔧 WHEN TO CALL A TECH:

Think closing vents in unused rooms will save you money? Think again! 👇

🚫 MYTH:
“Closing vents in rooms I do not use will save money.”

✅ FACT:
Your HVAC system is designed to move a balanced amount of air throughout your home.

Closing vents does not save energy — it actually:

Increases pressure in your duct system
Reduces overall efficiency
Can lead to airflow problems and potential system damage

In some cases, it can even cause your system to work harder, not less.

💡 ADVICE:
Keep your vents open and unobstructed.
If you want to control comfort or save energy, adjust it at the thermostat, not the vents.

🔧 WHEN TO CALL A TECH:
If you are dealing with:

Rooms that are too hot or too cold
Weak airflow
Uneven temperatures throughout the house

There is likely an underlying issue that needs to be addressed properly.

Think turning your thermostat down to 60° will cool your house faster? Think again!

🚫 MYTH:
“If I set it really low, it will cool quicker.”

✅ FACT:
Your AC does not work faster based on the number you set. It blows air at the same temperature every time it runs. Lowering the thermostat does not make the air colder, it only makes the system run longer and work harder. Constantly adjusting it or cranking it way down will not speed anything up, it just puts more strain on your system and you run the risk of freezing the system up.

💡 ADVICE:
Set your thermostat to your actual desired temperature and leave it alone. Let your system cycle the way it was designed to.

Side Note: In extreme heat like we see here, your system will not be able to reach very low settings like 65°. That does not mean it is broken, it means it is working within its design limits.

🔧 WHEN TO CALL A TECH:
If your system is not reaching your set temperature or running constantly, something else is going on.
