Thanks to the Dino lab at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County for providing amazing specimens to use in our MicroBlasting station for fossil preparation. Dino Fest visitors of all ages were able to remove fossil matrix from the tibia of a tyrannosaurus! It was a fun, though hot day, and we were happy to be a part of the event again this year.

Comco once again joined the festivities at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County's annual Dino Fest! Using Comco's MicroBlasting equipment, just like the paleontologists in the museum, visitors gently removed matrix from a real dinosaur fossil. Thanks to the NHMLA, this included specimens from a femur of a long necked dinosaur: Apatosaurus!

Take a look at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County latest project and vote for your favorite name. This dinosaur's unique green-colored fossil was excavated from what was a riverbed 150 million years ago during the late Jurassic period. When it comes to safely and efficiently uncovering fossil specimens, the museum relies on Comco micro-abrasive blasters to effectively remove fossil matrix.

🦕 Something BIG is heading to our NHM Commons, opening this fall! Our new wing and community hub will feature a 75’ long-neck sauropod with GREEN bones—the only one of its kind in the world—and we need YOUR help giving L.A.'s next icon a name! Select your favorite now through June 20: https://bit.ly/NewGreenDino

To maintain process integrity, critical blast variables must be held constant. After establishing the right abrasive flow, use the Powder Trap to validate your process. Learn more in this post:

The Powder Trap is used to check the rate of abrasive flow from a blaster. It can be used to calibrate abrasive flow for a group of blasters.
