Today, we are highlighting the story of Mike Melton, our Business Development lead! Here's what he had to say about his experience in construction and working at Intent Built.
How did you get into the construction world?
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs who developed hotels, shopping centers, golf courses, clubhouses, airports. In places like Arizona, Wyoming, Minnesota and Nebraska. I also grew up in a family of ranchers and farmers who understood the importance of land use and yield. Also grew up with stockbrokers. People who raised capital to invest in companies to help them grow. I began to see that construction development and investment was one of the most fascinating and vital components to a growing community and the country. My first opportunity came in residential construction, which then grew into commercial construction. Throughout my career, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to do, to learn, to dream and build with some amazing and gifted people that I have been able to learn from. Supporting businesses and entrepreneurs and their pursuit to grow their businesses and livelihoods.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The gifted, hard-working people who dream, dreams to build their business by supporting and building for others.
What is the most memorable takeaway you’ve gotten from your time here so far?
The strong characteristics of family integrity, unity and truly doing what’s best first for the customer. Heck, I had the president of our company. Call me on my birthday and sing. Happy birthday to me not just the first line or two but the entire song. Character is my most memorable take away.
If you could switch places with anyone else in the company, who would it be and why?
I wouldn’t switch with anybody. I really enjoy what I do but I also know that I can’t do what I really enjoy doing without the knowledge and skill experience and the talent of the people around me. Surrounding myself by people who are a lot smarter than me helps me to be successful.
Taking money and time out of the equation, what would be your dream project for Intent to be a part of?
A local and a national rollout of a cutting edge - world changing enterprise. I think of things like hydrogen production and Food production To the Consumer. Sustainable and proprietary expertise.
