The Lee family (Bubba and two sons: Jake and Josh) have an extensive history of lobster trapping. Operating out of Friendship, Maine, Josh Lee built and launched his own boat, the 46ft Kelsie Marie, which uses the 16 liter, Cursor 16 815 Mhp model. Josh’s boat is built to work hard and hold weight. He wanted it extra heavy and extra rugged, with an engine that would give a good cruising speed when carrying the weight of 150 traps plus ropes.

FPT Industrial is pleased to announce Highmark Marine Fabrication LLC as a new Marine Authorized Service and Parts Distributor for the Alaska region. Based in Kodiak, AK, they will manage FPT Industrial’s marine service dealer network and ensure parts availability throughout the state.

Operating out of the port of Poulsbo, Washington, the Frequent Flyer, a 36x13ft twin-jet dive-harvest vessel works across Alaska and Washington State. It dives year-round, harvesting sea cucumbers, geoducks, and sea urchins. The vessel often operates in high current conditions, sometimes with multiple divers in the water simultaneously.

To help guarantee the reliable power that the Frequent Flyer requires for both safety and speed, owner Blake Herr made the decision to repower the boat with twin FPT Industrial N67 530Mhp engines.

The Trinidad & Tobago Pilots Association is committed to providing high quality technical support to the local and regional maritime industry, while promoting exacting standards of maritime competence, safety, and protection of the marine environment.
John-Paul Pantin, Pilot Master, and Joel Isava, Head of Engineering, began exploring online for new options for a 9L engine to meet their needs, and asked for referrals from fishing fleet colleagues. They discovered FPT Industrial and closely studied the marine engine portfolio. Their research revealed the Cursor 9 engines would fit their needs exactly. The engine footprint and weight are identical to their original engines, making the repower easy to install. Nate Davis, owner of Davis Diesel, was ready to repower his own fishing boat, Nuts-N-Bolts (35’ Scopinich). As a marine dealer, Davis knew the best products to specify for each part of the rebuild and recognized that a robust parts network was vital to the project. He selected FPT twin N67 550 marine engines for their high fuel efficiency with low emission impact and best in class performance for low torque power.
“I can go out into the Gulf Stream — 60 miles out — troll all day and come back and burn 130 gallons of fuel. In other boats, I would burn close to 200 gallons for the same trip. That’s 35% less fuel.”
