KENTUCKY — Get ready for winter: Farmers’ Almanac predicts a cold, snowy season

It may be hot right now, but winter may be coming in a big way for Kentucky. According to the 2025–2026 edition of the Farmers’ Almanac, residents should prepare for a season marked by cold temperatures and plenty of snow.

The almanac, now in its 209th year, forecasts a “classic winter wonderland” for the Ohio Valley region, which includes Kentucky. Frequent cold snaps and multiple snow events are expected, with mid-January and mid-February highlighted as the periods when the bitter cold may hit hardest. Some areas of the state could even see snow before the official start of winter on December 21.

While the Farmers’ Almanac uses a combination of traditional formulas, historical data, and folklore to make its predictions—a method that has often sparked debate over accuracy—it remains a trusted guide for many who like to plan ahead for the season.

Kentucky residents may want to start thinking about winter preparations now, from checking heating systems to stocking up on essentials. With snow and cold likely to make their mark, the 2025–2026 winter could be one to remember.
