TEMPO - NASA's first Earth Venture Instrument mission will measure pollution of North America. TEMPO observations are from the geostationary vantage point, flying on a telecommunications host spacecraft with the goal to launch in 2019. TEMPO provides measurements to help solve national and international challenges
- US air quality standards continue to become more stringent to better protect human

health.
- New and transient pollution sources (e.g., vehicular traffic, oil and gas development, trans-boundary pollution) are growing in importance yet are very difficult to monitor from ground networks.
- Many areas of the country are not regularly monitored for air quality.

Exciting news for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's TEMPO instrument to monitor air pollution: the TEMPO mission has officially begun!

TEMPO, or Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution, has begun gathering daytime, hourly scans of the atmosphere over North America. These high-res scans monitor ozone, nitrogen dioxide and other pollutants in the air, revolutionizing air quality forecasts.

We've reached another milestone on our journey to monitor air pollution over North America!! We've just completed integration of the Instrument Control Electronics (ICE) into the Intelsat4e spacecraft at Maxar! ICE is one of TEMPO's two major systems, and it's integration into the satellite brings us one step closer to launch.

We're so excited to see our colleagues at Sitting Bull College are breaking ground on their new Facility for Innovative Atmospheric Research and Education!

Construction is underway for a new Research Science building at Sitting Bull College.

The building will have atmospheric monitoring equipment on the roof and a laboratory below on the main floor for collecting and analyzing the atmospheric data. Another room will be a robotics laboratory for the Pre-engineering degree program at SBC. An analytical chemistry laboratory will also be included in the building as well as offices for faculty and graduate students. Two MS degree students at SBC, Kimberlee Blevins and Floris White Bull will be conducting their research from data collected from the monitoring equipment and NASA satellites.

Our sister instrument, S. Korea's GEMS (Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer)- also built by Ball Aerospace, has launched into orbit!

GEMS will be the first in our constellation of three 🛰️instruments revolutionizing how we observe . The European Space Agency's Sentinel-4, currently in development, will observe air quality over Europe.

South Korea's Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) instrument on the Korean Aerospace Research Institute GEO-KOMPSAT-2B satellite launched into orbit aboard an Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket Tuesday, Feb. 18, from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana.
