C16 Our team came together thru the Harvard/MIT biotech ecosystem and settled on a common mission -- leverage microbiology to reimagine the palm oil industry.

Today, palm oil is the most commonly used vegetable oil on the planet. It is found in over 50% of consumer goods including shampoo, detergent, cosmetics, soap, and food. Palm oil is produced on expansive plantations in Southeast Asia. In order to make land accessible for these plantations, million of acres of tropical rainforests are burned and bulldozed. Wildlife is killed, indigenous people are

displaced, and thousands of laborers are forced into difficult and unsafe working conditions. We care a lot about this issue. And we know there is another way: synthetic microbiology. We are developing technology that'll allow us to produce conflict-free palm oil on much less land and without the need for deforestation.
