When we were teaching our Python course for biologists, we were often asked if we had any plans to create a general, beginner's Python course. Well now we have - and we are very proud to announce that registration is open for individuals and organizations who are interested in Python training.

This course doesn't even require a local Python installation - only a web browser and an internet connection. It combines self-study with regular live, online workshops at which the students can work through the course material and workshop exercises with our instructors, and get help with any areas of Python that they don't understand.

We have opened enrollment to individuals and to organizations who are interested in a cost-effective, turnkey Python training solution for their staff or students, that requires no setup or installation effort from their IT department.

At Amber Biology, as part of a client project to understand the complex cellular pathways involved in the neurodegenerative disease Frontotemporal Dementia, we created software for helping biologists to curate the data needed for building biological models from the scientific literature. This simple software tool is designed to to bridge the gap between the informal textual descriptions of pathway interactions found in research articles, and the kind of detailed and quantitative descriptions required for building formal computational models. We recently presented this work at Microsoft's New England Research & Development facility and this new article published today on LinkedIn, is a summary of that talk.

Yes folks - in an effort to expand our marketing outreach, Amber Biology will be opening a new office on Madison Avenue in the heart of Manhattan. Leveraging a prime location at the epicenter of American advertising, we will be targeting new markets using a whole new approach to our business development process.

At Amber Biology we understand that computational biology, bioinformatics, and data analysis should be about more than just dry equations and lines of code - we know that they're all about happiness and about your freedom to live the way you want to live, to be the way you want to be. We aim to extract from our clients' data the kind of insights that will open up new avenues in their R&D programs - clear, open roads to promising new realms, along which they will feel like they are driving in a shiny new convertible with the wind in their hair.

If this sounds like something that's for you, why not stop by and visit us on the 26th floor of our new location. A quick warning though - if you're also planning to join us for one of our signature endless oysters with Martini lunches, just make sure that our building's elevators aren't out of order that day!

A Chinese language edition of Python for the Life Sciences, written by Amber Biology principals, Alex Lancaster and Gordon Webster, is now out. The Chinese title of the edition is 生命科学家的 Python 指南 (or Life Scientist's Guide to Python). We are pleased to see that the translators went to some effort to preserve the original content and our style.

We are very happy to announce that Amber Biology LLC has been formally accepted as a partner at Earth Science Information Partners-ESIP.

We have been expanding into the earth science arena having worked for both NASA and OPeNDAP . There is very high degree of overlap between the kind of expertise and experience that is required for data science between the biological and earth sciences - that we can now bring to both.

Amber Biology is very proud to have been accepted as an official partner at ESIP - the Earth Science Information Partners organization.
