Stop Solar Farms in McCook County SD Sharing facts and information on the proposed solar dite in McCook County, SD on productive farm land

The goal of this page is to bring our county together and share awareness of the current solar farm that is in the works to be built in McCook County SD near Canistota- on productive ag land. We believe solar energy belongs on rooftops, deserts/marginal land, and other areas that are not productive agricultural land. Our goal is to preserve our small town, rural communities, and residents within f

rom large-scale, industrial solar farms- such as the one proposed. Once a solar farm is accepted, they will continue to build county wide. Please reach out to your local county commissioners with your concern for this project.

Lies, deception, bankruptcy, health and environmental concerns- the same song and dance we’ve heard over and over with so much of these green energy solutions.

Not a single voice in our county has shown up in favor of solar, yet our commissioners had no drive to make changes to the ordinances or find solutions for those who dwell in this county.

Talk about a joke. 1 pm on 1-9-24 the amount of electricity drawn from solar in the entire miso grid was 843 MW. Check out the images below of what the miso grid covers, and what makes up the grid in real time. Thousands of acres are being taken out of production to generate very little- for a very small time during the day. 843 MW produced by tens of thousands of acres of solar panels. Inefficiency at its finest, a shame.

On Thursday, November 16th at 9 am at the McCook County Courthouse in Salem, SD, a decision will be made that could change our county forever. Instead of lush green crops growing during the summer, we will see a black sea of industrial panels for over 700 acres. This is just south of Canistota where many of you likely drive past every day. Although this is right outside of Canistota now, it could spread across our entire county rapidly, so please share the details of this hearing to others in McCook County. We need as many of you to show up as we can on Thursday in support of our small communities in this fight against industrial solar.
Won’t our beautiful “Welcome to Canistota” sign look inviting surrounded by solar panels?

The Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing at 9:00 am, Thursday, November 16, 2023 in the McCook County courthouse in Salem to receive input concerning Grant Solar, LLC conditional use application for a large-scale 99 megawatt solar site in McCook County.

We urge you to spread the word to residents, landowners, business owners, farmers, and any and all shareholders in McCook County.

An industrial solar site could have major impacts to our county and small communities. The Grant Solar site phase 1 is around 800 acres. If this passes, solar sites will spread through our county, swallowing up thousands of acres of productive cropland. This will have devastating affects to our small communities. Solar belongs in deserts and on unproductive land!

Follow this page for more updates and share these posts to spread the word. We must all fight together!
