Good Morning!
Our friends at Millas Heating & Cooling have taken the time to write up an important public service announcement, which we would like to share with our friends and customers as well.
It appears that Old Man Winter is going to bring extremely cold temperatures this weekend.
Here are a few things to monitor throughout the storm. Stay safe, everyone!
- For power vented/direct vent furnace or boiler owners, please note that you have direct exhaust and fresh air intakes, typically located 12 inches off the ground. This storm has the potential to bring snowfall exceeding 12 inches, so be sure to keep those terminations clear.
- For heat pump users, please ensure that the area around your condensing unit is clear of snow to prevent blockage of the fan and coil. This will help prevent both pressure errors and potential no-heat situations.
- For everyone, please note that the upcoming temperatures are expected to be our state's peak cold weather temperatures. As a result, you will not save energy by setting back your thermostats at these temperatures. If you leave the house, it is recommended that you leave the thermostat at its current setting.
- For wood stove or pellet stove users, when temperatures are extremely low, using your wood or pellet stove keeps your central heating system from running. However, if you have hot water baseboard heat or radiant floor heat, this can prevent the water from circulating and keeping the pipes warm. If these pipes are exposed to poorly insulated areas or drafts, they can freeze. Know your system or keep it running!
Stay safe and warm, and if you need assistance, we will be available as soon as the roads are passable!
