As you know, yesterday Governor Pritzker extended the shelter-in-place order for all residents of Illinois to run through April 30th. Com-Pac continues to be designated as an āEssential Service Businessā under the Governorās order. This means that Com-Pac will continue with normal operations through this extended quarantine period.
While I say ānormalā many of you have noticed that our operations have been much busier than normal during this last two weeks of the COVID-19 crisis. So Don and I would like to give a great big shout-out to all our workers for your commitment and dedication to our mission of manufacturing essential medical and food packaging products as our collective contribution to helping our country get through this difficult challenge.
By way of information, we have seen dramatic increases in our shipments of specimen bags, specimen shipping containers (especially our Infecon cooler kits which are used to ship frozen COVID-19 specimens to the testing labs), Alcon Tray Covers and Shake and Bake bags. All these increases are directly related to our countryās virus-related demand for the essential packaging products which we manufacture. While we all certainly wish that our increased business was not due to the virus and are all prayerful that this crisis will end quickly, Don and I take very seriously our companyās responsibility to fulfill this new demand profile, while doing our best to protect the health and safety of all our workers.
As such, we will continue the policies which I outlined in my previous COVID-19 Update including:
ļ Continuing to employ our personnel whose full-time responsibility is to clean and disinfect bathrooms, breakrooms, computer keyboards and monitors, door handles, non-production work surfaces, etc.;
ļ Keeping workstations supplied with cleaning supplies for periodic wipe down throughout each shift;
ļ Discontinuation of all domestic and international travel;
ļ Restricting access to our facilities to employees only and only during their designated shifts;
ļ Sending home anyone symptoms of a cold or flu.
Effective this Monday, April 6th, we are implementing the following additional policies and procedures:
ļ A company-wide face mask policy which requires that all workers wear a face mask issued by Com-Pac while inside any and all Com-Pac facilities. This includes all production areas, restrooms, warehouse, loading dock, machine shop, offices, breakrooms, etc. You may remove your mask when outside of our buildings and during breaks and lunches in breakrooms so long as you try to maintain a safe social distance from your co-workers.
Gwen and all supervisors will have a supply of masks to distribute Monday morning and supervisors are asked to see that second, third and weekend shift supervisors have masks to distribute to their personnel.
As you have undoubtedly seen on the news, masks are very hard to come-by but Com-Pac has managed to purchase a limited supply for our workers, some local healthcare institutions and distributors, so we are asking that you take one mask per week unless it becomes damaged at which time you can exchange it for a new one.
Don and I realize that this is going to be an inconvenience for everyone, but we believe this is a necessary additional step to protect one another and that you will be seeing more and more public mask-wearing initiatives all around the country over the next several weeks as the crisis continues;
ļ Tomorrow we are meeting with a commercial company that offers Coronavirus mitigation, clean-up and disinfection services inside our facilities in the event any of our employees is diagnosed with COVID-19. If we learn of someone with this diagnosis it will be necessary, at a minimum, to temporarily suspend operations in the production area involved and any area the individual may have visited while infected, while the commercial service conducts disinfecting operations. We will provide more information on specific procedures to be followed after we have met with them tomorrow.
Remember these important points we have stressed previously:
> Please, please, please call-in to notify us and stay home at the first sign of any symptoms. These include:
ļ· Fever
ļ· Dry cough
ļ· Shortness of breath
ļ· Fatigue
These symptoms usually appear approximately 14 days after initial exposure to the disease;
ļ If you have these symptoms you can call the Southern Illinois Healthcare COVID-19 Hotline at 844-988-7800 for more information;
ļ If you have been exposed to anyone with the above symptoms please contact Gwen for further instructions;
ļ Do not leave home unnecessarily except for essential errands and follow instructions to maintain separation of at least 6 feet from other people as much as possible;
ļ Wash your hands frequently for at least 2 minutes.
Thank you for your cooperation and please continue to practice good hygiene and stay healthy!
