The pergola on this Carmel deck was solid. Everything around it wasn't: worn boards, only one space to gather. We kept the part that worked and rebuilt the rest: a new patio with a fire pit, so this family has somewhere to roast s'mores and tell ghost stories all fall. New decking and railing means less upkeep and a surface that holds up for years.

This Carmel backyard had an old deck under a pergola and an empty side yard. We upgraded to TimberTech for the deck, Fortress Building Products for the railing, kept the pergola, and built a paver patio with a curved seat wall and fire pit into the space that used to just be a lawn.

Now, there's two spaces to gather, grill, light the fire, and watch the fall colors roll in.
