Sturtevant Richmont

Sturtevant Richmont Building the torque tools top professionals have used for more than 70 Years! In 1924 when Walter P. Sturtevant to manufacture and sell the invention.

Chrysler created a torque wrench to control quality on his aluminum engines, he licensed Paul A. Sturtevant continued to develop new tools. In 1940 he incorporated his company. That year, Frank Livermont also incorporated a company called Richmont. When the two companies merged they created the most comprehensive torque tool offering on the planet. We still maintain our founders vision of making the world's best torque tools. The customers who have been with us for 70 years seem to agree.

Durability in our DNA #61.
The Exacta We first made the Exacta digital torque wrench in 2003. The design might not have been streamlined, but the display tilted. Some very advanced engineering went into the wrench.

Some of that engineering is still cutting edge seventeen years later. The original Exacta is pictured on the bottom and the top wrench is the Exacta 2. There were big advances in both design and technology when we made the leap to the Exacta 2. Some things didn't change. To be exact, it is still accurate, reliable, and durable. Those things are still top of the market. They were then. They are now.

Today there are multiple versions of the Exacta 2 that provide five modes of operation with 3 of those modes in torque and angle. The last time we saw the wrench on the bottom was in March 2004 when it left the factory. It came back to us again in February 2021. It still runs like it is new.

That's why customers say there is Durability in Our DNA. Our tools are easier to calibrate, hold their calibration longer, and last much longer than other brands. That is part of what helps create the lowest cost of ownership in the market.

Durability in our DNA? Customers tell us YES.

Does Torque Tool Reliability Really Matter?
Reliability means to be trustworthy or to perform consistently well. Sturtevant Richmont torque tools are known for reliability and part of that is being highly repeatable. That reliability comes from the flattened case and the linked pawl system.

The linked pawl is guided through the case by high quality steel ballbearings. There is no extraneous travel. Our patented Shear Beam Transducer fits in the flattened case. It also is more accurate than other tools because it measures strain, not bending. The trustworthy part is about is more than just being more accurate.

Our tools are known for holding calibration longer than other tools. When they do need calibration, Sturtevant Richmont tools are easier to calibrate. Even in high use applications the tools hold up remarkably well.

We design tools to need fewer repairs. Not all torque tool manufacturers take our approach. Some charge a flat rate for tool repairs for the year. If you are lucky enough to not need the repairs, you've still spent the money. If the tools need a lot of repairs, you may actually think you are ahead and saving money. But are you?

Wouldn't it be simpler and easier to just buy tools that hold calibration and don't need repairs? The cost of repairing torque tools is part and parcel of the cost of ownership. That is why customers worldwide say that Sturtevant Richmont tools have the lowest cost of ownership in the world.

Durability In Our DNA? Of course.
We never tire of receiving pictures of our tools that have been out in the field for decades. This tool has been in a European auto plant since the 1960s.

It works fine and still holds calibration! This is a classic Sturtevant design. The flattened case reduces inaccurate torque application from sideloading.

The dovetail allows for more than 200 interchangeable heads that fit without changing the common centerline. You don't need to recalibrate the wrench when changing heads. rebrand.ly/ilfqi

In the last 60 years, we have changed the grip and made it more cushioned and comfortable. Other than that, you can't tell if this wrench is 60 years old or 6 minutes old. rebrand.ly/gzqgc

Don't stuff the landfill with tools from your torque tool budget. Buy tools that last. Buy tools with durability in their DNA. Sturtevant Richmont torque tools.

Durability In Our DNA #71
How much do they love their SR torque wrenches?

We received an inquiry wondering if we had the parts to repair this LTC-0 wrench. The LTC-0 dates back to the 1970s or maybe the very early 1980s.

Do the math:
We know that wrench was used every day on an auto assembly line. If that plant worked 8 hours a day on 200 days/year, that is 1600 hours a year. If the operator tightened 12 fasteners an hour that would be 19,200 fasteners a year. If that wrench went into operation in 1981, that was 40 years ago. 19,200 fasteners a year for 40 years is 768,000 fasteners.

When customers tell us that we have the lowest cost of ownership in the industry, it is because they buy our tools and use them for decades. Decades!

In this case, the customer was wondering if we had some repair parts for this particular wrench. Customers love our tools so much they just don't want to part with them. We do have parts. But, after 40 years of use, it is time for a new wrench. When they buy that new wrench, it will still have the Dovetail on it so the heads they bought all those years ago, still fit.

Durability in our DNA? We can't help it. We're just built that way. . .

Global Host! The Torque Data Repository That Gives You the Most!
Torque is our world and our tools give you the lowest cost of ownership in the industry. Our torque data repository, Global Host, gives you more for your money. Details are found on our website - rebrand.ly/dd4yk6iutm

Rather than loading you up with expensive features you don't really need, we take the opposite approach. We give you the things you need and nothing else. We collect ALL torque data, including that from DC Nutrunners.

You can download the data into your data visualization software of choice. We don't make you pay for yet another data visualization program that you'd have to learn. Use your own. You already own it and know how to use it! Because all controllers are subscribed to Global Host if the network goes down, but work is completed, we automatically go back to the controller to find that data and bring it into Global Host.

Need to find all the builds done with a particular tool? Look in Global Host. Global Host does a lot and the cost is very little. For more than 90 years we've been providing our customers with high value for the money they spend. We aren't about to change that.

How Do You Test 1,000 Screwdrivers a Day?
When a customer called us saying they had just bought 6 testers to test 1,000 preset torque screwdrivers each and every day and they weren't happy, we jumped in. We showed them System 8 and Torque Tool Manager 4.0 calibration software. We call it TTM 4.0.

The next day they were shipping the testers back to the supplier and were ready for ours. If they could have sent back the 1,000 screwdrivers and bought ours, they would have done that too. But they couldn't. What made them choose our solution? We set up bar code scanning so they could scan the tool barcode and TTM 4.0 would bring up the tool and set the units of measure, the test point, and in less than 3 seconds they were ready to test to ISO standards. https://rebrand.ly/yq8ka

They loved how fast and simple System 8 and TTM 4.0 made testing. And, they had a great database of information. This combination gave them everything they wanted and nothing they didn't. https://rebrand.ly/1s7iv

Need to do a lot of accurate testing? System 8 and TTM 4.0 are great solutions.

Derek Lew - Sturtevant Richmont Torque Expert

No one is ever awarded the Sturtevant Richmont Torque Expert title without earning it. It isn't the kind of thing that is given as a participation trophy. You don't get it because you cash a paycheck. You get this badge of honor because you've proven to customers and to Sturtevant Richmont management that you add value every step of the way.

That isn't easy. In a company where technical expertise matters and the standards are extremely high, the Torque Expert mantle is earned one customer at a time. And it can be lost very quickly.

Derek was a well-respected, very savvy, hard-working mechanical engineer at Volvo. He was using our wireless tools to solve all kinds of assembly-related challenges. He walked in the door having a great understanding of what our wireless solutions can do for customers.

But Derek didn't stop there. He kept learning more about the tools and controllers. He learned more about the technical aspects of the business. He learned more about assemblies, critical joints, and safety.

That is one of the many things that separates Derek from the ordinary torque tool salesperson. Derek continues to learn every day. He keeps soaking up knowledge so he can better help customers.

Derek engineers customer success in the mid-Atlantic states along with parts of the North East and his home state of PA.

Why Is It Good To Be Self-Centered?
Back in 1954, Richmont founder, Frank Livermont patented interchangeable heads for torque wrenches. The basis of the design was the Dovetail. Today, the Dovetail is known worldwide because it offers so many advantages.

One advantage is that the Dovetail is self-centered. Because of the pin and spring design, when you slide the head onto the center of the Dovetail, the pin locks the head in place. Being self-centered can be good. The head is locked on the Dovetail until you insert a small flathead screwdriver into the access hole and depress the pin to slide the head off the wrench.

Tools based on a plug size with interchangeable heads can require two wrenches of the same capacity to cover the entire range of head sizes. The same can be true for Din-style heads. Over 200 interchangeable heads fit on any wrench that we make with the Dovetail. Learn more here - https://rebrand.ly/99aox

You get the lowest cost of ownership in the industry. You need fewer wrenches and that also means lower calibration costs. And, our wrenches do last much longer. Put your product quality in the center of your focus. Use Sturtevant Richmont tools.

Why do customers worldwide prefer Sturtevant Richmont torque screwdrivers?
Some will say it is unmatched repeatability. Some cite greater accuracy. Some say it is a life cycle that is measured in decades, not cycles.

Each customer has their own reasons why they prefer Sturtevant Richmont. Those reasons all add up to the highest impact on assembly quality and the lowest cost of ownership in the industry.

We know a little bit about torque screwdrivers. Richmont founder, Frank Livermont invented and patented the torque screwdriver. Why do we use Livermont’s design basics after more than 70 years?

Because, like a lot of inventions in the torque industry, Frank Livermont got it right the first time. When you get it right, people demand your product. That is why the demand for Sturtevant Richmont torque screwdrivers has grown for more than 70 years.

Why Do Operators Prefer Sturtevant Richmont Torque Tools?
Sturtevant Richmont torque tools are well balanced, lightweight, and easy to use. They make it easy to get the job done quickly and get the job done right the first time.

When companies are considering changing tools, our best salespeople are sometimes the operators themselves. Smart managers listen to their associates and value their opinions.

Time and time again operators prefer Sturtevant Richmont torque tools. The operators don't care about the legendary durability or the low cost of ownership. That doesn't impact them. They care about how the tool feels in their hand and whether or not the tool helps them get their job done right. They care about tool weight and whether or not the tool will still feel good in their hands at the end of the day.

Implementing new tools can be difficult and fraught with disaster or it can be successful and easy. A lot depends on your operators. Give your operators what they want. Give them the tool they prefer. Sturtevant Richmont!
