There’s one setting that often gets misunderstood: Emergency Heat.

Here’s the simple breakdown 👇

🔥 How a heat pump normally works
A heat pump doesn’t make heat — it moves heat from outside to inside. Even when it’s cold, there’s still heat outdoors to use. This is the most efficient way to heat your home.

⚠️ What “Emergency Heat” actually means
Emergency Heat turns off the heat pump and uses electric heat strips only.
✔️ It will heat your home
❌ It uses much more electricity and costs more to run

🚨 When should you use Emergency Heat?
Only if:
• Your outdoor unit isn’t running
• The heat pump is damaged or iced solid
• We’ve specifically told you to use it

❄️ When NOT to use it
• During normal cold weather
• When the system is in defrost mode
• Just because it’s taking a little longer to warm up

💡 Pro tip:
If your heat pump is running but the air feels warm-ish instead of hot — that’s normal. Heat pumps heat steadily, not in blasts like gas furnaces.
