About Our Team:
Team 687, also known as CAMS Robotics or The Nerd Herd, is a FIRST Robotics competition team from the California Academy of Mathematics and Science. One out of every five CAMS students is involved in the design, assembly, or presentation of the competing robot, thus making it the most prominent club on campus. The Nerd Herd encompasses two branches: Build and Administration. Buil
d Team’s responsibility lies in designing, constructing, and operating the robot during competition, while Admin serves as a business-oriented backbone focused on promoting, fundraising, and organizing business plans for Team 687. The ROV Team, also a division of CAMS Robotics, specializes in the blueprinting and construction of remotely operated underwater vehicles designed to accomplish specific tasks. Currently, The Nerd Herd is sponsored by CAMS PTSO, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, SpaceX, and Boeing. Previous sponsors have included the Norris Foundation, Rhodia, Shell, and Chipotle. About Our School:
The California Academy of Math and Science is a small public high school located on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. Students are admitted only as freshmen after a highly selective application process which entails several essay questions, an interview with a CAMS teacher, and the demonstration of an original science project. After being admitted, all students are given the opportunity to enroll in specialized math and science classes including Biotechnology, Introduction to Robotics, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Digital Electronics, Introduction to Engineering, Physics, and Engineering Design and Development throughout high school. The engineering pathway fostered by CAMS is dedicated to educating and inspiring students with a passion for engineering and science. To see our team in action visit: http://www.camsrobotics.org
