Some ingot molds I built in dozens of approximately 5 minute increments over the last several weeks. I had some short drops of 3" channel, so I cut some end plates, welded them in at an angle, cleaned up the weld to have a smooth radius, blasted off the mill scale and coated them with ceramic coating.

Hopefully these will be an improvement over the angle iron molds I built a while back that were a little too thin and had no draft angle on the ends.

If it ever gets cold outside I'll fire up the furnace and condense some scrap metal to test these out.

A little bit of aluminum welding. This under bed toolbox was on a semi trailer and had bottomed out, squishing the box. The customer had already cut the old weld out and straightened the box, so all I had to contend with was this being a difficult area to clean and prep thoroughly, as there is a piece of aluminum angle inside as a doubler.

Working through some electrical troubleshooting on an Altec bucket truck PDM. Basically every time you engaged the PTO all of the relays would brown out and the ignition signal would get interrupted causing the truck to shut down and stranding you in the bucket if you were working solo šŸ˜¬

Turns out the entire system was grounding through the magnetic clutch coil.

40"x40" parking lot drain grate. Main bars and perimeter are 1/2"x3" and the cross ties are 1/2"x1" steel. Sprayed down with cold galvanizing spray for some corrosion protection.

For the nerds (or anyone else curious):
It's a little hard to find guidance on just how heavy something like this should be built. The best reference I could find was AASHTO M306 / H-20 which requires a 40,000lb proof load in a 9x9 area, so that what I designed around with the goal of keeping max stress below 18ksi during that test. This is roughly a 2x factor of safety on a test that is meant to demonstrate a 2.5x factor of safety over a 16,000lb wheel load. Does that mean that this is massive overkill? More than likely yes, but it's also a one off project where optimization never pays off and having a ton of extra margin for mistakes, corrosion, etc is always good.

A little bit of lineboring work today on this 953C Cat. The bore was pretty chewed and full of old bearing material granules, so it was pretty rough on cutting tools until I got down through all the junk.

Minimal cleanup on the faces. They look better in person than in pics and the machine has 11k+ hours, so we decided not to get too carried away facing everything down perfect.

I'm slowly piercing together some additional overhead storage. I still need to get the wire mesh attached and hang some LED light panels underneath to get dedicated task lighting on my workbench/toolbox.

I convinced Jessica Wild to run the bandsaw and cut all the unistrut and managed to sneak a pic of her running the mill to put holes in the shelf brackets.

A quick project to get Austin West back on the road.

2nd gen Dodge hardline from hydro boost to steering gear. Not a perfect match to OEM, but close enough and it doesn't leak. The original developed a crack at the flare and was leaking pretty badly.
