We recently wrapped up a 29-acre selective clearing project in Kimball Township.

Social media has people thinking every guy with a dozer, excavator, or dump truck is making a fortune.

Reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

Most contractors are one major breakdown, one engine failure, or one transmission away from a really rough month.

People see the iron.

They don’t see the monthly payments.

They see the truck and trailer pulling out for another job.

🚜 Another Private Road Brought Back to Life The RIGHT Way!

We recently wrapped up a little over ½ mile of private road grading on Harsens Island, serving 42 homes.

Instead of simply smoothing over the surface, we took the extra step of completely reclaiming the existing roadway by grinding up the road and mixing the existing stone throughout. This helps create a more consistent base while making the most of the material already on site.

From there, we:
✔️ Re-established the road crown wherever possible to improve drainage.
✔️ Performed precision finish grading with our grading truck equipped with a mid-mounted grading blade for a smooth, consistent driving surface.

One of the unique challenges on this parts of Harsens Island is the two narrow bridges with very restrictive weight limits. Because hauling in new aggregate is extremely expensive and inefficient in this situation, our goal is always to maximize the existing material whenever possible. Unless additional stone is absolutely necessary, reclaiming and reworking what’s already there is often the most cost-effective solution for the residents.

A man has died and two other men have been injured in three separate trench collapse incidents at construction sites in Southeast Michigan this week.
