We finished the bookshelf and we are super happy with the way it turned out. The home owner couldn’t be happier now that she has a spot to sit and read her books. I told her we need photos after the shelves are stocked. We also trimmed out a small door she has for her storage space. Not very hard to do but really made a difference from what was there. As usual I didn’t take a before picture of it sadly.

It was a really fun project with some very precise measurements. We were so close to rubbing the ceiling with it but she fit like a charm. I ended up making my own crown molding cause we didn’t want something too thick up top to take away shelf space. We also did a fancy heat register because the normal ones would have made the whole thing look like trash.

I finally finished the upstairs bathroom at our house. My poor wife is so patient with me. I finished 95% of it about 5 months ago and didn’t have the trim to complete it. After getting sick of looking at the trim I finally put it up. It’s funny how those final details can make the room.

There was an old cast iron tub in there that I had to carry down by myself. Wasn’t a big fan of that since our stairs are so closed in so I cut it in half. Then I got the new tub and I framed up the arch. My wife did the wall paper and she did a pretty good job for never doing wall paper before. The ceiling we went with a cool look, I tinted plaster and troweled it on. Gretta was there to help with that cause she’s the one with vision of making things look nice. I was just willing to figure it out and fix it if I screwed it up. We did two coats and tinted one coat slightly lighter than the other to give it some depth. I thought it turned out really cool.

Since the weather has been so nasty we decided to do some inside work. We are building a book shelf with a reading nook in front of the window.

We have the reading nook built with two drawers built. Also we have two open shelves built but have to trim them out. I’m hoping to get the actual book shelves built and get the faces built. After that comes a nice coat of green paint and the install.

It was my first attempt at making a diamond like that and I’m super happy with how it turned out.

Here’s a fun project I did for Dwayne up at A1 tire in Elkton. Which if anyone needs tires he’s your guy.

These were actually 12x24” floor tile that I cut down to size and installed. I had to add a little pazzaz (however you spell that word) to the space behind the stove. His wife was kind enough to trust me with this and I’m glad she did. We also did the countertop for them as well. The butcher block they bought wasn’t wide enough so we had to add to the back of the counter behind the sink so it fit right to the wall. It was pretty tricky to get the joint seamless but with some patience we got it. I was super happy with how we were able to match the grains of the butcher block to each other on the cuts where the sink is. All in all it turned out pretty shnazzy

Here’s day four of the pole barn. Jim with J2 construction brought his lift for us to set the trusses and that was a life saver. His operator made a tough job almost too easy. We literally sat on the walls while they brought the trusses right to us. Couldn’t make it any easier. We have the overhangs all built and ready for soffit and fascia. We will probably brave the cold tomorrow and get that all done tomorrow and start putting the sheeting in the ceilings done while we wait for steel.

We built a pantry with a potato drawer on the bottom and it doesn’t seem like much but we are super happy with how the trim work turned out in this one. We had to build the doors by hand because they were a goofy size that nobody made. I’m no cabinet maker by any means but this turned out super clean and the ow era are very happy. There’s a few photos of the joists on the doors and there’s no gap at all. I was fully prepared to get the wood filler out and try doing some magic on it but we didn’t need anything but a little sanding to fix out cut marks on the edges from our table saw. The base molding was pretty fun to do as well with it going around the 3/4 framing.

Not too shabby for the progress on this barn. Total of two days so far. I was worried the frost would not let us scrape the sod off but the ole skid steer made easy work out of it. Now it’s waiting for trusses. Lumber yard said they would be in on the 12th so while we wait we will go remodel a kitchen and build a pantry for some much needed storage.

Going through my photos and I’m noticing I never posted this story

We built a carriage house this summer and this garage was in front of it the whole built time. When we finished the owner was going to tear it down. So I suggested if we haul it away and put it at my house. He was happy with it cause he didn’t need to pay to tear it down.

Fast forward to moving day and we brought a trailer in and hauled it down the road. When I tell you I’m not a building mover I mean it. I was so nervous and hated every second of it which took over two hours to move it in place. I think it’s safe to say we won’t be moving buildings any time soon.

I missed my window to finish putting the brick on the bottom. When spring comes around I’m going to put brick along the bottom of the wall to give it a little more character. You can see my crappy brick stacking to get an idea of what it will look like. Plus I’ll get the door painted.

Pretty fun project are on right now. We built a pole barn for the owner and she asked if we could build a roof over her porch and screen it in. We are going to build screens so she can remove them when needed and that’s pretty fun to figure out. Not the hardest project but it is a fun one to build.

When we showed up the wall was wanting to cave in. Instead of replacing all the framing around the windows, we just build them a deck. Turned out really nice. We even took some scrap boards and routered them to make little base molding around the posts. It made for more work but cant argue how much better it makes them look. We were even able to save the outlets. I told the owners I was a little jealous of it and they said the house was for rent.

Some jobs aren’t as fun as the others. We laid block under a house that was just high enough to crouch. The owner needed to bring in a few loads of sand and level it out under the house to help dry it up under there. We got the house jacked up and laid a few course of block under it. Not very fun hunching over carrying block but we got it done. Once again took horrible pictures but here’s what we have.

A little update on our carriage house project. She’s all built up and painted and we got the driveway poured and sidewalk poured. It was pretty close to a 30 yard pour and definitely a hard one for only three guys. Difficulty is never a deciding factor for Red Thunder though.

Cool little side note, we found an old beer bottle when we did the foundation and the owner wanted us to bury it again for the next guy when they redo the driveway.
