A new air conditioning system for your home can legitimately be considered an investment. Because systems are replaced, on average, every 15 to 20 years, new cooling units are considerably more efficient that what is now in your home. That will lead to a monthly savings on your utility bill. Over time, that savings will equal the price of the new system.

How can mold end up inside your home? The tiny spores the mold produces can travel inside your home and end up in any area of the home. If the spores locate in an area with sufficient warmth and moisture, mold will soon appear and spread through that area.

Mold can be found everywhere. It feeds on dead and decaying matter and produces very small spores that move through the air and can reproduce in the proper conditions. Inside a home, moisture and warm temperatures are required for it to spread. Cooling systems that are not working properly can create favorable conditions for this.

Do you know how air conditioners remove humidity from a room? The evaporator coils on the front of the unit get very cold during normal operation. As the warm moist air in the room comes into contact with the cold evaporator, the moisture in the air condenses out of the air and attaches to the evaporator coil, and is eventually evaporated to the outside of the house.

Did you know that a cooling system in your home can also clean the air? A central air system is designed to move the air in your home through a filter that can remove even minute contaminants such as dirt, dust, pollen and pet dander.

Do you know how to make your air conditioner more efficient? Prevent any direct sunlight from heating up the room that the unit is in. Clean the dust filter every month or as often as it needs it, and during A/C use, try to limit using any heat generating appliances such as stoves, ovens, hair dryers, etc.

An HVAC system will do more than just cool your home. It will also lower the humidity to comfortable levels. High humidity levels can create moisture which can then lead to mold and mildew. The EPA recommends an indoor humidity level between 30 and 50 percent.
