The best high school athlete in Iowa isn't playing football or basketball in college.
He's going to Stanford to play golf.
I sent Judd Jirovsky a DM a while back and asked him if he wanted to come to our shop to check out some putters.
We made him a Hanna Golf putter, and he has been gaming it for a year and a half.
And his story is one that we don't really see anymore.
He's from a town of 2,800 people in rural Iowa. Nine-hole golf course, no driving range.
No US Jr Ams, No AJGA, No HJGT, No Swing Coach.
He doesn't even have a WAGR ranking.
Why? Because Judd is arguably the best athlete in all of Iowa.
While kids want to specialize in sports today, Judd was a five-sport athlete and dominated every single one of them.
• Two time individual state golf champ
• Three time state champion in football
• Mr. Football In Iowa
• State medal in Track
• Threw 43 consecutive scoreless innings as a pitcher
As a freshman he shot 63-68 to win the state title by 11 shots. He'd only played golf for a few years at that point.
His parents don't really play golf; he isn't a legacy at Stanford; he has had zero handouts.
Judd didn't have the resources that a lot of junior golfers have.
But he has a tremendous work ethic and talent. And he is a great human. No entitlement, yes sir, no sir, will outwork anyone in the room.
I don't know - it just fires me up. No excuses, no shortcuts, just hard work and getting it done.
Had every reason to complain and say that others around him had more opportunity. Yet he still achieved his dream of getting to Stanford to play golf.
We are pumped to watch and cheer Judd on as he continues to grind and become an even better golfer in college.
