Usually, Triton products are applied to large, flat commercial and industrial roofs—helping keep the buildings (and the humans inside them) safe. But this month, we had a much smaller objective: a 200-square-foot hippo exhibit.

As part of the year-long Hippo and Penguin exhibit renovations at the Honolulu Zoo, TritoFlex 2K liquid rubber was applied to the wood decking of the upgraded trellis, followed by a topcoat of TritoWalk.

The Honolulu Zoo is home to two female resident hippopotamuses, Mara, 22, and Louise, 34. The renovated exhibits recently reopened after much-needed improvements. As the Zoo Director put it: “It is very exciting to reopen these two important exhibits. Our penguins, along with Mara and Louise, are excited to greet their many admiring fans!”

At Triton, we’re used to seeing our products protect commercial and industrial buildings, but we’re happy to show that our versatile products can help protect customers big and small. Humans and hippos.

Product out the door. Product on the roof. That’s what we like to see.

It’s been a busy month at Triton, with plenty of product shipping out and several projects wrapping up.

15 totes are headed to Mississippi, a new-construction Applebee’s in Pennsylvania is getting Protan Textured PVC, and Central Washington University now has TritoFlex on their roof with custom-tinted TritoCryl 1K on the metal.

And the best part? After a torrential downpour earlier this month, CWU reported no leaks — for the first time in years.

Now that’s what we like to see!

Why are so many commercial roofs white?

White roofing systems reflect sunlight, helping reduce rooftop temperatures while protecting the roofing membrane.

This 7,200-square-foot bank in Irving, Texas received a new 60-mil Protan SE White PVC roofing system, installed over the existing insulation. By using a recover system instead of a full tear-off, the project reduced waste while delivering a durable new roof backed by a 20-year warranty.
