Our biggest press developed a crack in the crown. Nobody could see it.
But we test the oil in our presses on a regular schedule, and the results came back with metal fines that shouldn't have been there. Retested a few days later, same result. Shut the press down and found the crack.
The press manufacturer stood behind their warranty even though the press was 10 years old. While they built us a redesigned crown, we kept the customer informed, kept running at reduced speed, and got ahead on parts. Never missed a shipment.
We've been doing this kind of monitoring since the 1990s. It's not glamorous. It saves programs.
