When a machine is down, "we'll get you on the schedule" isn't much comfort.

There are parts waiting to be made, deadlines getting closer and customers expecting their orders.

That's why response time matters.

As this cusomer put it: “Alta's service response time is quick and unparalleled.”

That's the kind of feedback that means a lot to our team because service isn't a side of the business we take lightly. When a customer calls, there's usually a reason they need us. Our job is to respond, figure out what's happening and help get their shop back to making parts as quickly as we can.

Thanks, Timothy, for always trusting us with your machines!

Tool capacity isn't the flashiest number on a machine spec sheet.

But you notice pretty quickly when you don't have enough of it.

A larger tool magazine can mean keeping more job-specific tooling loaded, reducing tool swaps between jobs, having redundant tools ready for longer runs, and giving more complex parts everything they need without intervention.

For a high-mix shop, that flexibility can be worth a lot more than the number of pockets suggests.

It's one of those machine specs that's easy to skim past when you're comparing equipment.

Until you're the person standing at the machine changing tools again.

"It's paid for."

That's a pretty good feeling when you're talking about a machine that's been on the floor for 15 or 20 years.

And if it's still making good parts reliably....keep making parts.

But "paid for" and "free to run" aren't the same thing.

An older machine can quietly start costing a shop in other ways:
•More maintenance.
•Harder-to-find parts.
•Longer setups.
•Slower cycle times.
•More operator attention.
•Jobs you can't quote because the machine simply wasn't built for them.

None of that automatically means it's time to replace it. It just means the number on the loan payment isn't the only number worth looking at.

Sometimes the hardest-working machine in the shop is the oldest one. And sometimes it's the most expensive machine you own without realizing it.

OKAY, technically we sell machine tools.

But nobody calls Alta because they've always dreamed of owning another piece of equipment.

They call because they need something to change.

A job is taking too long.
They've run out of capacity.
A tolerance is giving them trouble.
They're quoting work their current equipment can't handle.
They're relying on an old machine that has earned its retirement.
Or they landed a job and now need to figure out the best way to make it.

The machine comes later. First, we figure out how to solve the problem.

Are you going to IMTS this year? Have you called Alta to schedule a time with us that week? Consider this your reminder.

Our team will be at IMTS Monday through Friday, meeting with customers, checking out the latest technology, and spending plenty of time in our OEMs' booths.

If there's a machine you've been wanting to see, a production problem you're trying to solve, or you just want someone to help you make sense of everything on that VERY large show floor, let's get some time on the calendar.

Give your Alta rep a call or reach out to us to schedule a meeting.

And yes, we're accepting calls from phones manufactured after 1995.

Want more parts out the door without adding more hours to the day?

This used Enshu JE50S 2-Pallet Horizontal Machining Center is available from Alta and ready for its next shop.

The big advantage here is the 2-pallet setup. While one pallet is in the cut, you can be preparing the next job, helping reduce the amount of time your spindle spends waiting.

And there's plenty more to work with:
• 12,000 RPM chilled CAT 40 spindle
• 2,362 IPM rapids
• 19.7" X, Y & Z travels
• 40-position ATC
• 400mm pallets
• 1° B-axis positioning with 360 positions
• 260 PSI through-spindle coolant
• Fanuc 18iMB control

For a shop looking to add horizontal capacity, improve spindle utilization, or move work off an overloaded machine, this could be a very useful addition to the floor. And it's available now.

Reach out to Alta for pricing, availability, or to take a closer look.

A couple things that we love about this video:

1. Multigenerational Hurco machines. We love to see the durability and life that shops get out of their Hurco. And they love them so much that they buy new Hurco models.
2. Hearing the value that shops are getting out of upgrading to a 5-axis. "Instead of tying up 2-3 of these machines for 2-3 days, it's one machine for 3-4 hours."

Everyone wants to see the first chips. But we're pretty interested in everything that happens before them.

A new machine doesn't roll off the truck ready to start making good parts. There's positioning, leveling, checking, testing and plenty of time spent making sure everything is where it needs to be.

It's not the flashy part of a new machine installation. But when that first cycle starts and the machine performs exactly the way it should? It's worth the extra effort.

A little behind the scenes with the Alta team getting another machine ready to earn its spot on the floor.

The conversation around productivity is changing. For years, a lot of machine-buying decisions came down to speed. How fast can it cut? What's the cycle time? How quickly can we make this part?

And those questions still matter. But we're hearing another one more and more: How much can this machine accomplish without tying up an operator?

That's why technologies like pallet systems, automation, multi-spindles, 5-axis and multitasking are becoming such an important part of the conversation.

A good machinist's time is valuable. Having them spend it loading the same part over and over isn't always the best use of it.

Give that machinist a process that can run longer on its own, and suddenly they have time to set up another job, solve a problem, inspect parts or keep another spindle producing.

That's when automation gets interesting.

It's not just about making a part faster. It's about getting more productive hours out of the day.
